Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- GrizMeadville, PA12 contributionsWe trekked through torrential rains and high winds, but had a most memorable experience. After parking at the visitor center, we walked to the castle (took approx. one hour and included multiple stops to appreciate the views). We were excited to learn the castle was open for tours, so we purchased tickets and enjoyed learning about the history and contents of the castle. The View Point Trail located behind the castle should not be missed. It is very steep in places, but at the top, the views are unmatched. Prior to boarding the bus (one way tickets purchased at castle) to return to the visitor center, we treated ourselves to hot drinks and sweets from Synge and Byrne located at the castle. We highly recommend a visit to Glenveagh National Park and Castle.Written 2 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DannyMcC_13County Down, UK68 contributionsThis is a delightful House to visit, set in beautiful Donegal countryside. We visited Glebe House and Gallery on 8th September late on a beautiful afternoon. It is located on Church Hill, about 11Km from Glenveigh National Park and not far from Letterkenny, in County Donegal, and is managed by staff from the Irish Office of Public Works (OPW). The house, land and contents were donated to the Irish State by Derek Hill, an Irish painter, founder and sponsor of the Tory Island School of Folk Painters, and it is now open to the public. There is an art gallery in which exhibitions are held, a pleasant courtyard, with a café surrounded by flowerbeds filled with bushes and perennials. The garden is of moderate size but well planted and interesting.
The house is open for regular tours costing a few €, guided by OPW staff. Our guide was Mary, who had encyclopaedic knowledge of the contents of the house, the painting and their artists and the history of the house, which made for a fascinating visit. I was able to identify the unknown violinist subject of one of the Derek Hill portraits.
We enjoyed our visit to the house, its garden, contents and history – it was well worth the detour and should be on the “must visit” list for visitors to this part of Donegal.Written 11 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He was a wealth of knowledge regarding flax processing and linen production. Callum explained that the facility was used to mill grain for the area also. The Mill displays provide a very detailed explanation of how flax was processed, with interesting exhibits and some hands on displays. Allow 90 minutes at least.Written 13 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 2CAtravelersBrattleboro, VT750 contributionsDespite a good sized parking lot adjacent to the Cathedral, if you are not a local, you are best served to walk up. The surrounding streets and laneways are narrow and most only one-way. The building itself will guide you, it is easily seen by most, if not all of the town.
Once you arrive you are rewarded with a magnificent structure. The interior was not well lite, but still a beautiful sight. Take a moment, sit and soak in the history.Written 13 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s very easy to get there if you have GPS but there are lots of signs on the way too. The place is in a quiet area surrounded by fields and cows and the views from there are outstanding. - Tommy C12 contributionsWe enjoy looking at old churchyards and this one was really immaculate despite the age of some of the graves, very interesting notice board marking out the plots and giving local information of the people buried there.Written 30 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rainydaywoman2013Atlantic Highlands, NJ19 contributionsThis historic thatched cottage offers a look into life in Donegal a hundred years ago. We were treated to a talk by a Donegal native who shared the history and lifestyle of the community while a peat fire burned in the fireplace and we enjoyed a homemade tea and scones served on lovely china. The cottage was occupied from the 1860s to 1980 and now serves as a community gathering place and historic interpretation center.Written 11 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
