What travellers are saying
- Kelly QSeabeck, WA, United States5 contributionsOh my! If you want to immerse yourself in Irish countryside culture this little museum is a MUST SEE! Charlie Finneran is simply priceless and his collection is as well. Totally worth the admission (€8)Written 17 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- kellytrisha2Waterford, Ireland5 contributionsReally enjoyed our visit to the farm... my 10 year old son laughed and smiled throughout. 3 bags of food given on way in to feed the animals, who are very friendly. Plenty of animals to feed and pet...goats, emu's, geese, donkey, various chick's, got to cuddle rabbits. Also monkeys, llamas, deer, wallabies and more. Plenty of shelter so no need to worry about rain...we had torrential showers. Lots of great play area's indoor and outdoor. Coffee shop. Highly recommend and would return. We spend 2.5hrs there but could have stayed all day.Written 10 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Ava1 contributionWe had a lovely family day out in fernhill garden centre yesterday, the staff were extremely helpful and gave great advise on our plants. There is a very happy atmosphere around the place with cheerful music and friendly staff. The kids loved the play area as we enjoyed a coffee in the restaurant. Best of luck with the opening of the new gift shop, I can’t wait to visit again!Written 21 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tourist79726817 contributionsI was delighted to have time to pop in after visiting the castle opposite.
A lovely church, grand architecture and peaceful inside. Lovely crib scene and Christmas trees.Written 19 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Kristine BOrlando, FL274 contributionsNice clothing and homewares store that has a rich history in Athlone. There are some information boards down by the Shannon that explain some of the history of Burgess’s.Written 6 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jacqueline RCork, Cork, Ireland497 contributionsThe gallery is located on the river and the light pouring in through the glass lined corridor is stunning in itself.
The gallery features different local artists and is well worth a visit. Some beautiful thought provoking pieces on display.
Their is currently no admission charge.Written 6 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - barrakellyDublin, Ireland188 contributionsEasy, flat looped walk. Good starting point is at the quays by the castle. The trail runs mostly along the Shannon but loops around inland by a small canal.Written 31 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Brian TWaterford, Ireland6 contributionsCan’t praise this place highly enough. As a family with zero experience of horse riding we were nervous. 2 adults with 10 & 6 yr olds . Beautiful treck with great scenery but the staff are the real highlight. So attentive and caring towards the horses , chatted to our kids all the way round . So glad we did this . Any family looking for something to do together will not be disappointed.Written 25 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- CRRG_DublinDublin, Ireland126 contributionsLovely quiet place just outside Athlone. Excellent centre with lots of interesting exhibits but you'd need lots of time to read all the articles. The 12th century abbey and St.Brigid's Well are right beside the centre. But the other places of interest are a few miles away - the Wake House, The Dolmen and the Hedge School. Good parking on tarmac outside (always good to have tarmac rather than gravel, especially for motorcycles). Very friendly local volunteers - Anton and Sean - showed us around and gave us a lot of information about their fantastic work to preserve the local heritage.Written 28 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Kristine BOrlando, FL274 contributionsDidn’t go inside the church, but it’s gorgeous from outside and has a lovely garden behind and there’s an old burial ground opposite.Written 8 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KDVisiting4 contributionsVery interesting. It's a mark of respect to the men of A company 35th Battalion who fought for the UN in the Congo against enormous odds. They held out from the 13th to the 17th September 1961.
They were then imprisoned and having survived all the above they then came home to a nation that only just recently honoured their efforts.
To go I'd advise phoning ahead, the memorial is in a working military base.
Really worth a visit. It's simplicity, it's setting, really respectful.Written 25 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Angus D1 contributionSlightly hidden away by the river, Dead Centre Brewing is a must find in Athlone. The selection is fantastic and the service is top tier. Our server Anna was knowledgeable and very helpful. I highly recommend a visit!Written 17 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
