Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Erika KalmarBrussels, Belgium70 contributionsI haven't even heard of this place before visiting Valentia island and this became my personal highlight.
Entry fee is 8€ for cars or 4€ for walkers. You can park at the entrance and do a steep hike to the viewpoints or you can drive and park at every viewpoint. There are info sheets everywhere talking about history, mythology, flora, fauna and places you see around yourself. And the view is different from all three places. There is even a picnic point. A must on your list, if you visit Valentia island.
If you're there, also visit the lighthouse and the Skellig Experience Centre and do the Bray Head drive - Valentia island has a lot to offer.Written 14 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We didn’t do the loop however, we just went back the same way. Did it with my 8 year old son and my parents who are in their 60s. Was a very rewarding view of the Skelligs and the surrounding areas during the walk and at the top. Could even see the Dingle peninsula clearly. €2 parking is very reasonable and well worth it and the 2 hours spent walking up and back.Written 7 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Erika KalmarBrussels, Belgium70 contributionsNice place. Stone from bronze age, fort from Cromwell era plus views, lots of info on how a lighthouse is operating and the lighthouse master's living quarters transformed into a small museum. There is also a nice little tea room.

The young man who was our tour guide was known, friendly, and did a very fine job leading the tour!
He knew the history, operations, and showed us the various work sites. It was a well spent hour, and very glad we took the tour!Written 21 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The road is challenging in that it is single track with marginal pullovers. At the end, just before the radio station, is a small parking area. A moderately steep trail leads to an overlook where the tracks are visible. Are they really tracks or just happenstance pockets of erosion? That kept crossing my mind. Way cool if true, It’s an hour drive - back and forth - from the Ring drive.Written 10 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BronzeTankLimerick, Ireland166 contributionsA bit pricey for such a short journey but it does save 20 minutes driving to access the Island via Port Magee... check out the multi trip option...Written 13 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pfefmeisterSan Francisco, CA4,374 contributionsThis is worthwhile to visit if you make it out this far. Interesting history concerning the trans-Atlantic telegram cable which began from this Westernmost position. A storyboard details the trials and tribulations of this ambitious undertaking. I’m not sure it’s worth the drive to see, so combine with the tetrapod tracks to make the long detour worthwhile.Written 10 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - D PWellington, New Zealand7,954 contributionsSo St Brendan’s Well is a bit of a brackish watered hole with tacky weird stuff around it- however there are several lovely old crosses one of which is over the stile.
There is also some amazing rocks in that field and if you walk up along side the wall you can walk to the end of the field to the sea then walk right to see the fantastic rocks and crashing sea views. Perfect place for a picnic, in with the sheep!
Keep to walk to your left as it can be boggy in places and at those points you can see a path up the wall and along then back down to the dry part where fisherman have used it to get down to the lower rocks.
Don’t go to the lower rocks ona windy or high water swell day as freak waves can wash you off. Best to stay to the top rocks amongst the lovely green grass looking over it all.Written 2 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is pricey but worth every penny for the quality. Far superior to Murphys ice cream in both taste and value for money. Absolutely, loved that the dairy where the milk comes from is right beside the little ice cream shop.Written 4 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jenna MBelfast, UK116 contributionsWhat a view! And they just keep getting better as you walk out towards the headland. The views of the Skelligs are obviously great but make sure you look behind you to appreciate the amazing views back inland as well.
When you get the fort the cliffs to the right make for a great view as well. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day to do this walk. Was a good way to stretch the legs after a fair bit of driving.Written 10 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So it was a real treat to be able to hear, see and enter the quarry with our knowledgeable guide, Stephen. To think that slate from this place was taken to roof places like Paris Opera house and elsewhere is quite mind boggling. A real highlight of a wonderful holiday in the area and such value at 5 euro a head!Written 13 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dadandcab28 contributionsThe clock itself isn't overly interesting but the plaque detailing the clock's history is worth a read.
