- rodd426Vero Beach, FL30 contributionsAn outstanding structure. So much history to learn about. I was doubtful I could manage the walk to the site, so I asked the attendant how far it was. He offered to open the gate and allow us to drive to the location. You must be careful as people are walking along the same road/path. Only parking for maybe 2 cars. Please do not miss this bit of history just because you may think it is beyond your physical abilities as all you have to do is ask the staff. Again, great stonework in an ancient graveyard, with spectacular vistas over the countryside. Fortunately, you are able to walk inside, though it seems it could crumble at any moment. You park in a small lot across the road, walk to the entrance and pay the a few euros per person to enter, walk up a hill( about 2-4 minutes) and then you are there. It is not large and spending 20-30 minutes is about right. Very interesting. - starshy926Louisville, KY719 contributionsMinard Castle is a bit out of the way and yes, you have to drive down a very narrow road (that would be quite challenging with lots of traffic)...but this place is great, and having something all to yourself is magical! I only met a couple cars on the drive down and back to the main road. It's a very cool place though, my only regret is the time of day I was there...it was around 2pm and the lighting was very harsh to get good photos. I bet it would be great in the morning (including sunrise) and maybe late afternoon/sunset. If you're arriving in a car it's best to stop by at the small ravine first and then plough on all the way onto the pier, there is enough space to make a U-turn there. The rock crevice at the very end of the pier is supposed to make a booming sound, amplifying the waves, but when we were there I haven't noted anything of that sort. If you want to see traditional Irish music and incredible musicians, this is the place to go.
