What travellers are saying
- liverpool1023London, UK896 contributionsWe visited from Rennes taking a direct bus trip (Keolis) from the central station taking one hour to arrive at the very MSM modern tourist centre. It is a 35 minutes walk from the tourist hub along a bridge-like causeway to reach the Mount itself. The alternative is to take the very regular shuttle buses, that apparently run 24 hrs per day. If you wish to visit the Abbey, I would recommend advanced booking. Ticket prices are very reasonable (Euro 11) and we took around an hour to do the tour. It is impressive to say the least - a vertically stacked multi-storey monastery with fantastic views across the bay.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jay W2 contributionsThe place is as amazing as all the other reviewers say. However, the food at a large portion of the restaurants is very expensive, and also not tasty. The best solution is to pack your own lunch/snacks to eat while at the mont.Written 9 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK2,000 contributionsThe bay is incredibly impressive especially when seen from the top of the mount. The tide must come in very fast so go on a guided tour if you wish to walk on the sands,Written 8 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FLnurseERBoca Raton, FL2,809 contributionsWhile strolling through the narrow streets of the Mont, we noticed people coming and going through this doorway with a statue of Joan of Arc to one side. We went in to admire this little church while people spontaneously recited the Lord’s Prayer. A very nice moment to remember.Written 8 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DavidLille, France1,593 contributionsEven in the gris, it's worth a stop on your visit to MSM. Lovely vistas out to the sea. Worth visiting early before lots of other visitors arrive.Written 1 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK2,000 contributionsOne of the best views of surrounding tidal flats and countryside. Marvel at the extensive defensive views of the surroundings and the speed at which the tide must flow inwards.Written 8 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK2,000 contributionsThis is a narrow medieval street with cobbles and steps. There are food shops, trinket outlets and some hotels. The hotels may have a terrace at the back where you can eat or drink. You will travel through this street on your way to the abbey.Written 8 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SnowyShastaPortland, OR2,151 contributionsThis dam was installed relatively recently and helps to control the flow of the river and prevent too much silting up of the bay of Mont Saint-Michel. There are some signs with more information about the dam and how it works which we found really interesting. We attempted to time things to be there right as the dam opened to let water through but missed it. That said, we enjoyed looking at the mechanisms and watching the water flow through. Also, the dam has a nice walkway and seating area, from which you get wonderful views of the abbey. We spent two nights at a hotel nearby and took multiple opportunities to visit the dam and see the views at various times of day.Written 6 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK2,000 contributionsImpressive entrance to the town. You will have trouble taking a photograph due to the number of visitors crowding around it. Best therefore to visit as early as possible.Written 8 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia17,760 contributionsThis is the central staircase which leads you up to the Abbey. It consists of several flights of steps.
Depending on from where you count, there're from around 350 to 900 steps until you reach the top and the western terrace where's the main entrance.
In any case, it is worth your effort.Written 24 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I came upon it while walking around the bay during low tide. It sits to the left of the main entry.Written 9 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 6_Speed_AutomaticCovington, LA267 contributionsThis review is based on a self driving tour of Normandy...
We arrived in early November, so we parked near the shuttle bus. There is a charge for parking which can be paid at the staging area for the shuttle bus (which is included) or at kiosks on the path to the staging area.
The shuttle bus will take you near the base of the mount; it's up to you to walk the rest of the way . Once inside the walls, the path is steep with multiple restaurants and souvenir shops along the way. No elevator or escalators available. At the very top is the abbey. We had the guided tour which was fine. Also available is an audio tour which may have been a bit better as you progress on you own pace. Spectacular views and photo ops from the top and within the abbey.
Plan for 3 to 5 hours from start to finish.Written 16 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
