The gardens were peaceful and beautiful. We spent a nice time walking around as well as sitting and reading.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. It wasn’t too busy and we got a very detailed welcome into the first dining room area. The employee was very knowledgeable and interested in having a chat with us.

The art collection might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s the first time I’ve seen a collection with such a specific history hung in such an interesting setting. It’s hard not to appreciate the collector’s passion for these works!

Great 29km route, super for making it a day out with friends and family with food stops on the route, or great for the locals to nip in a leg warming 30km.

Superb route when fully connected to lake Comabbio and Lake Maggiore, then you are looking at over 70km of riding.

Sunny weekends very busy with cycles and pedestrian... avoid. On days following copious rainy periods, parts of the route are in former swamp areas... get ready to get muddy.

We're staying in Mercallo for a month and the owner of the place gave me use of his mountain bike as I'm a keen(ish) cyclist and the lakeside path is easily accessible from the village. There are car parks along either roads SS629 or SP18, however they are a bit isolated so think it would probably be safer to park around Ternate/Varano Borghi. It's not all flat so expect some elements of excertion, also it's sometimes confusing as to where the path continues as the surface changes - I went clockwise and someone has kindly painted direction arrows on the path in places to assist. One of the sections consists of a 500metre boardwalk over the lake which looks new.

You can of course walk the 12km or so path and it's very scenic in places, or you could just undertake a section around Ternate where there's convenient refreshment stops. The path also joins up with the Lake Varese trail although I didn't see it signposted (not that I was looking for it). There's a childrens play park/picnic area and swimming platforms next to the rowing club along SP18 between Corgeno and Varano Borghi.

The observatory was not what we expected but it didn’t disappoint at all. It’s a guided hike (To demonstrate the distance between planets in our solar system) up to the top of the hill where there are spectacular views of the valley below and the snow covered alps are clearly visible in the distance.

A hidden jewel, went with my two children 10 and 12, never seen them more interested in a Museum. The story of the brothers is fascinating and the park where the museum is located deserves a visit on its own merit

Bang in the centre of Varese's gardens. We saw the exhibition of 1800 Italy and UNESCO pile-dwelling sites.

A nice surprise, a lovely garden to walk in, but unexpected a very nice collection of paintings and other art. A special exposition on the pollution we make together. The fresco's inside are beautiful. The building from outside is not much, but go inside for a couple of hours.

Went to Mass in this Church and found the atmosphere both devout and interesting. Like most Churches in the area this main church uses the Ambrosian Rite (Church of Milan) which is a bit different from the Roman Rite we are used to in England. Sung Mass is very participatory with many responses and chants. The interior of the church is decorated and colourful with a clean neoclassical architecture and a splendid 16C campanile- you should hear those bells!
