Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An interesting place to walk around, especially if you have a guide who'll explain the British navy's boat that was captured during an assault on Kokkola in the Crimean War, and how the window-ledge ceramic dogs face to provide a message.

Spent a few days in Kokkola and received very helpful tips from Kokkola Tourism. They helped us booking tickets and gave advice on restaurants. Really liked Kokkola and we'll be back. Thank you!

A pretty nostalgic place. I have been here many times. It was very exiciting as a child but not so much as an adult. The historic houses and vehicles are still interesting. I would choose summer if I were to visit again.

My family (grandparents, parents and children) has spent such a nice time with our host Sofia between all the animals (reindeers, goats, cats and dog) and in a beautiful surrounding. If you like being in nature, want to know more about reindeers and have a coffee or sausages over there, this is a perfect place. My children would loved to have stayed for longer.

This was the first museum we visited in Kokkola. We were on a road trip and we had planned Kokkola to be our pit stop for 3–5 hours. We visited Roos House, Pedagogio, Lassander House, walked around Neristan, saw the old English gunboat and had a tasty waffle lunch.

The Roos house is one of the oldest stone houses in Kokkala and it was completed 1813. Roos family - merchants - built it to be their private house. The two-story house is a mix of different architecture styles at least Rococo and Neoclassical features. This house has seen a lot. It has been private home for Roos family, Tsar Alexander I has visited it. Later the Kokkola's first upper elementary school started here in 1860s. The house has been also a bank before it was bought by city of Kokkola in 1960s.

The Roos house is a perfect place see how wealthy bourgeoisie lived in Finland. There is also a small but quite nice art collection in the 2nd floor mainly paintings from the Golden Age of Finnish Art e.g. from Pekka Halonen and Magnus Enckell. The paintings are a donation from Karl Herman Renlund who was born in Kokkola. He was a sailor's son who worked his way from shop assistant to wealty business man. There is also a small exhibition about him and his personal history.

You can visit this museum by yourself without guidance. Which in our case was perfect.

It is so good that cities buy this kind of buildings and renovate them to be museums. It is the only way to preserve our history and cultural heritage.

Kieppi is a science museum, which consists of three different parts: the butterfly collection, other biological collections (Finnish mammals and birds, foreign species, traditional hunting culture, fossils) and the mineral collection. These collections are huge. The butterfly collection consists of 30,000 specimens and the mineral collection consists of over 1,500 specimens from all over the world.

Biological dioramas are marvelous. You can find many very rare and exceptional specimens in these collections, e.g. a melanistic hare, hybrids between two different species and interesting fossils.

Our family spent about an hour in this museum. My teenage son could have been there even longer. Besides, there isn't any entrance fee to this museum!

A small museum and exhibition telling about the the life of merchant families and some information about seafaring. This house is from 1748 and it has been a home and is also now decorated like a home of 18th century merchant family. It is part of Kokkola museum quarter. Life has not exactly been very glorious for wealthier people either in 1700s Finland. So just think how it was for poor. You can walk around freely without a guide.
