This is the best place that I visited out of my two days trip to Helsinki. Rocky walls and metallic looking ceiling makes the difference to ones we normally go as church. We are lucky to witness choir and opera - it was more a practice event, but accoustic, music and the environment was excellent. Very nominal fee for entrance - escape from cold outside as well for a good time that we spent there.

Beautiful church in a lovely square. It's a must in the city for its surroundings. The new architecture is unique and since it's located in higher ground, there's also a worth view.

Well worth the visit: excellent lunch options, meat, fish, veggie or just a nice cup of coffee with some baked delicacies.
    Try the reindeer kebab...

When hard times seem to follow each other it is good to know that somebody will listen to your worries. The chapel is open every day offering ecumenically help from professional people regardless of your own religion or even lack of it. Recently renovated though only 10 years old the wooden building was designed as part of the Design Capital project by Mikko Summanen.

A small walk uphill towards the golden domes. Church looks a bit run down from outside. Inside is better, with much to see.

I love travelling on trams and Helsinki does not disappoint. As someone who does not really know the city, there seem to be enough of them trundling around the city.

We often choose Silja Europa on our return journey from Tallinn. The departure time at 12:30 is very convenient if you stay in a hotel.

The journey time is 3,5 hours. There is enough time to do the 'tax-free' shopping and have a pleasant lunch before arrival in Helsinki at 16:00.

The price for two including a B2 cabin was 66 euros. For that price, you would get two or three Helsinki-Tallinn-Helsinki cruises in the same cabin. One-way trips are always more expensive.

This time, there were more people on board because it had been a Friday departure from Helsinki. Many had still the party going on and the noise levels were high.

Our lunch at Grill House restaurant was luckily calmer. Friendly service and tasty food. It was our best meal on this trip.

We have visited this museum many times. Sometimes the exhibitions are quite strange like on our visit this time.

On the top 5th floor was a 32-minute long video work by Doug Aitken. The screens were huge and round. It was easy to get dizzy.

On the 4th floor was sound art by Mika Vainio. That was an even stranger experience. Empty rooms with some or no sound.

On the 3rd floor would have been the best exhibition Mad Love by Seppo Fränti but that we saw already in June.

The building itself and the views from the 5th floor were the highlights this time.

The museum mostly shows stuffed/ conservated animals. The animals are nicely prepared and the museum tries to show them in their natural habitat and in their natural environment. The visit in total took us about 2h. I believe if you have small children it can take longer. The price is a little high for what the museum shows I would say. Probably I am a little biased, since we have a similar museum where I live and it costs less, yet if even larger. But still, if you like seeing animals and are interested in history of evolution, then it's worth a visit.

Leaving coat and bag at the lockers anybody can enter to admire the exquisite building which forms a part of C.L.Engel's empire style city plan for Helsinki. The library was already established in Turku in 1640 under the Swedish rule but moved to the capital to serve the new university. On the shelves you will find books also in other languages besides the national two. It is possible to climb up the rotunda, but some chambers are reserved only for research.

Celebrating its 160th anniversary our biggest and most famous department store is now on a slightly ascending curve in profitability as the pandemy eases. The effort to target brand conscious middle class is paying off and customers are returning to the store which has several new cafeterias offering refreshments while shopping. Outsourcing the traditional food market has helped to balance the economy too.
