Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the Market Square, I took Tram #2 to reach this attraction. Two friendly locals told me that they were getting off at this stop and would show me the way.

The church is underground. As I approached it, I saw big rocks neatly stacked up to form its walls. Entrance fee is 5 euros for adults, no discounts. Tne decorations are simple, the inside walls are big pieces of rocks put together. There is an organ on the left side of the church.

At 2:00 p.m the organist started playing the organ. FREE, short concert for all of us visiting this church at that time.

I visited it first thing in the rainy morning. There was group discussing about their pending presentation here. The decorations are sparse and minimalist. What attracted me most is their beautiful and colorful organ located near the ceiling area.

Entrance here is FREE, but donations are welcome. I bid goodbye to the staff who explained that the Cathedral is Lutheran, not Russian Orthodox. They have scheduled services through out the week

I thought from some of the other reviews this would an interesting place to visit. It's smaller than I thought butno big deal. I wish that there was more choice of places to eat, it seemed that most those were pretty much same type of things they offered. I think it's neat because you see the other small shops selling fish I think kinda cool to take photos and how diff its compared to the US. I only went 1 time but I think it's worth checking out if in the area

A most beautiful cathedral situated close to the market square and can be seen from miles away.
We did not go in however thoroughly enjoyed a good look around.
Beautiful and well worth a look if you visit this stunning little city.

I bought a 72-hour City pass when I landed at the Helsinki International Airport. It allows me to use all local transports in the city for free, including the trams.

Instead of using the more expensive Hop on Hop off Bus, I use the trams. Per advise from my hotel staff, Trams # 1, 1A, 7A, 7B, 3T and 3B are excellent ways to do this sightseeing. Trams # 7 and 9 go to the port where one takes the ferry to Tallin.

Absolutely phenomenal place. We saw it from the concert hall opposite and there were people sitting out on what looked like a huge floating wave up on a roof. Looked awesome so visited to explore. We are not big fans of modern architecture but this is just totally awesome. Wonderful spaces, amazing areas for sitting and reading, beautiful big kiddy areas, great cafes and ... wow, having a coffee out in the sun on that vast, humungous balcony. Back indoors to marvel at the facilities - sewing machines and equipment to design clothes available to hire, machines for making plastic items, video and music studios to hire, video gaming studios ..... it's a library but not as we know it.
If you have an hour spare and want to see something off the tourist track, it's fab and it's free.

It is simple & graceful in its design juxtaposed against the urban landscape of shopping centres and the like in this part of the city. Sadly we were not able to see inside at the time during Easter.

The museum is fascinating and offers a comprehensive look at Finnish history and culture. It features a vast collection of artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays that showcase the country's history, from prehistoric times to the modern era. The museum's highlights include an impressive collection of Finnish folk costumes, weapons, tools, and exhibits on the Finnish civil war, the country's independence, and its role in World War II. It is not a big museum, but it is very interesting to know Finland's history.

Visited with a curious 4-year-old. Stuff you could touch combined with the stuff you can only look, was nicely balanced for us. I think the stuffed animals and their scenes were in good condition -> interesting.

Oh what jewels to be found inside. This is a big library with 7-8 levels. It's a book readers paradise for sure!
Entry is free. You need to leave your coats, umbrellas and food etc at the ground floor. There are free lockers.
The building from inside is beautiful, with gorgeous frescoes.
The library is spic and span and well organised. Many places to sit and read in silence.
There is a cafe downstairs but didn't check it out. Clean restrooms.
A week is not enough in such a place.

We had a tax-free coupon from our previous journey. With that, one way journey from Stockholm to Helsinki was just 32 euros in an A-category window cabin. We also booked special breakfasts. So the total was 76 euros - 5 euros using my Viking points (boats).

The highlight of this trip was the sunset on departure from Stockholm. The special breakfast was as good as before.

The ship was quite full. Probably, there was also a holiday week in Swedish schools as in many Finnish schools. So we skipped the crowded nightclub. The sunset was the best entertainment for us.

We took T-S from Stockholm to Helsinki (overnight). Then from Helsinki to Tallin (just 2 hour ferry). About the overnight trip: you board around 4:30 for the 5pm departure Everything was smooth. I'd say no one really helps you and it is all "do it yourself" from checking in via kiosk and getting a ticket which is not only for entry to the boat but also your room key. The boat is big but not huge. It is not luxury - just like sleeping on a ferry. I was worried about seasickness and I definitely felt movement of the boat but I never felt ill. There are several places to eat on board. Restaurants. There is a bar and there is a "nightclub" which is a bar with a performance (ABBA when we were on/but did not attend). We ate in the French restaurant which was actually pretty good. There is a duty free store within the boat which sells lots of alcohol and other things such as chocolate. The room was basic. There was hot water in small shower There were 2 bunk beds/cots. We had a window to outside. I slept pretty well. Getting off the boat was easy in Helsinki and there are lots of cabs waiting at the terminal. On our 2 hour ferry to Tallin, it was pretty crowded getting on. It was a "free for all" to figure out location to plunk yourself for the ride. It was a crunch getting off the boat.

This museum has Finland’s oldest and largest collection of art. The museum was closed for one year because of a renovation and was opened last month.

The biggest changes we noticed were the ticket sale, the toilets and the permanent exhibition which has now a mix of old classics next to modern paintings. The works are now divided into themes. It felt a little bit strange to not see all the greatest Finnish classics in the same main hall.

The temporary exhibition on the 3rd floor was a vast exhibition of Albert Edelfelt and his extensive work. Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905) is one of the most known Finnish painters. His art is noted for its naturalistic style and realist approach. His many beloved works are considered to be Finnish national treasures.

The building the museum is situated in is fascinating. The exhibitions I think are changed every so often. When we visited there was an exhibition called Navigating North and then a Markus Cooper exhibit. I enjoyed both exhibits and thought they had a good mix of different mediums.

It is definitely worth seeing if you are interested in architecture and/or art (or if you want to escape the cold for an hour or two!).
