Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I bought a 72-hour City pass when I landed at the Helsinki International Airport. It allows me to use all local transports in the city for free, including the trams.

Instead of using the more expensive Hop on Hop off Bus, I use the trams. Per advise from my hotel staff, Trams # 1, 1A, 7A, 7B, 3T and 3B are excellent ways to do this sightseeing. Trams # 7 and 9 go to the port where one takes the ferry to Tallin.

We had a tax-free coupon from our previous journey. With that, one way journey from Stockholm to Helsinki was just 32 euros in an A-category window cabin. We also booked special breakfasts. So the total was 76 euros - 5 euros using my Viking points (boats).

The highlight of this trip was the sunset on departure from Stockholm. The special breakfast was as good as before.

The ship was quite full. Probably, there was also a holiday week in Swedish schools as in many Finnish schools. So we skipped the crowded nightclub. The sunset was the best entertainment for us.

We took T-S from Stockholm to Helsinki (overnight). Then from Helsinki to Tallin (just 2 hour ferry). About the overnight trip: you board around 4:30 for the 5pm departure Everything was smooth. I'd say no one really helps you and it is all "do it yourself" from checking in via kiosk and getting a ticket which is not only for entry to the boat but also your room key. The boat is big but not huge. It is not luxury - just like sleeping on a ferry. I was worried about seasickness and I definitely felt movement of the boat but I never felt ill. There are several places to eat on board. Restaurants. There is a bar and there is a "nightclub" which is a bar with a performance (ABBA when we were on/but did not attend). We ate in the French restaurant which was actually pretty good. There is a duty free store within the boat which sells lots of alcohol and other things such as chocolate. The room was basic. There was hot water in small shower There were 2 bunk beds/cots. We had a window to outside. I slept pretty well. Getting off the boat was easy in Helsinki and there are lots of cabs waiting at the terminal. On our 2 hour ferry to Tallin, it was pretty crowded getting on. It was a "free for all" to figure out location to plunk yourself for the ride. It was a crunch getting off the boat.

Easy to use, very frequent, good clean trains, feels safe. Good information but do get a map. Place names are given in both Finnish and Swedish which is confusing but necessary locally. Single price ticket for any journey within the city itself. (Would be much easier if other places adopted such a structure.)

On the 1st of May started a new line from Meritullintori to Kruunuvuorenranta. It will be operated until the new bridge is ready next year.

The one-way trip took 20 minutes. From the sundeck, you have great views of Uspenski Cathedral and the icebreakers docked at Katajanokka.

You have to buy an HSL ticket including zones AB. It costs 3,10 bought from the HSL app. The ticket cannot be bought onboard and there are no ticket-selling machines on the piers. The ticket is valid for 80 minutes.

You can come back with the same ticket if you don't want to explore Kruunuvuorenranta. We had an evening snack at the pleasant Kruunu Pizzeria.

The airport train station is below the airport so you will need to use the lift if you have large luggage or use some very long escalators to reach it. Be aware that you will need a Zone ABC ticket if travelling to the city centre as the airport is in zone C. The tickets can be purchased on the platform or you can download the HSL app and buy a ticket 24 hours prior to travelling. Taking the train is cheap and easy and takes about 30-35 minutes to reach the central train station. Plenty of room for luggage and super clean. I would have taken it back to the airport and to Espoo during my trip but wasn't able to due to a train strike.

We were staying a short walk away from Market Square, so it was an easy walk for us to the dock area to catch the ferry for the short 20/25 minute or so journey across to the fortress, with one interim stop in each direction.

The ferry was efficient - arriving and leaving on time with two decks, one covered and one open, which is best in good weather as it gives you good views as you travel. On our way back, the weather became more windy, so upstairs was for the hardy explorers.

They also serve a limited range of refreshments for you to buy for your journey.

It was so comfortable, quick and useful alternative when our return flight has been cancelled due to political reasons.
We had the chance to take it in March when it was still running.
I really hope it will renew soon: the border control takes place in the train, so no hours-long wait at the border like in the case of buses.

A little disadvantage: only available to citizens of Finland and Russia.

Check-out in Helsinki was fast and friendly. Despite the long technical delay, the trip went smoothly. Room cleaning was insufficient from Helsinki, but from Travemunde very good. The staff on the ships are polite.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the lounge because it was so empty as there were hardly any flights due to Covid. Food selection was great, well presented and tasted fresh. Great time to relax before our next flight

The agency sent out what seemed was a blast email cancelling my trip. No personalisation or anything, no explanation despite taking full payment days before.

I had to ask them why, they explained the ferry broke down and required repairs. I had to quickly scramble accommodation and activities for Helsinki as I hadn't expected to stay in Helsinki at all.

If you want to see Suomenlinna , but can’t walk far , this is the way to see the island fortress in comfort ! Mikko is a great person to show you the island , from his chauffeur ridden tricycle Taksi ! He’s also a mine of information and can tell you a lot about the island and its history . You can have a 45 min or a 90 min tour . He will meet you at the ferry terminal on Suomenlinna . A one-off experience !
