The guide I used, Darius, was extremely informative. In addition to learning about the local lore, he also was a wealth of knowledge on Finland society, politics, and definitely imparted an overall understanding of the country, the people and the local way of thinking. Ed is from Ireland but has been living in Finland for some time now and he knew how to relate to the foreigner in the tour. This is an excellent plus point for any tour guide.
The tour was well balance with history, fun fact, general knowledge, lots of pop culture reference and most importantly a fun brief introduction to Helsinki - especially it’s culture, it’s rich history and it answered all the questions we had on why Helsinki is the way it is today.
I especially liked how Ed explain the traditions of Finnish people (especially when it comes to Sauna), the street signs (which are in Finnish, Swedish and an animal picture) and norms of the every day life of a Finnish person.
It was new year eve and Ed even recommended to us the places where we can go to celebrate New Year eve.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - SEK1 contributionWe had a 9 hour layover in Helsinki are arranged a Helsinki tour. Darius was fantastic. It was -5 deg C and 20 cm snow outside. Darius picked us up at the airport, drove us to Helsinki, and we walked around for 3 hours. We would walk for 10 min, then duck into a building to warm up. Lots of interesting buildings, and a great hot chocolate stop! We used up a lot of energy and sleep soundly on our next 13 hour leg to Singapore!
Darius has a history degree and it really showed in the depth of knowledge about Finnish history, both ancient and modern. He was happy to answer any questions we had and expanded on things we were interested in.
I particularly want to point out how good driver Darius is. Olga-our tour guide--was amazing! She gave an informative and fun overview of the highlights of Helsinki and Finland. We learned a lot about the history, cuisine and culture. She also gave us wonderful recommendations for the little bit of extra time we had before we needed to go back to the airport. This tour is a great way to see Helsinki! He showed us Helsinki historically, culturally and even taught us how to navigate the public transport: We used the ferry system to the islands the next day and made it back!
Georg has infinite energy and introduced us to the local cuisine, history, architecture, art, the magnificent inclusive library, and explained the unique culture to us.

Porvoo is a very quaint medieval village with beautiful architecture and lovely people. The gift shops were very cool and the chocolate factory is a must see! He is friendly, patient and goes above and beyond. On Paulo's suggestion, we also ended up fitting in a trip to Estonia while we were in Helsinki, and he even provided us with advice on this and more after our tour finished!
