Parking was easy and there's rental stores on every corner of the resort. The place is breathtakingly beautiful and the animals are really well cared for and looked after, we loved every second of our experience and will treasure the family memories for a lifetime! The only thing I’d say is the beautiful and new reindeer shop and coffee shop wasn’t open and we’d have loved to have warmed up after our experience with a yummy hot choccy with all the trimmings and a naughty cake. Also when we went today it was -21 and our kids were freezing cold it may have been a good idea after the sleigh ride to heat up in front of a fire or in a warm room before heading off to feed the reindeers, as both my kids haven’t experienced temperatures that low before so they were extremely uncomfortable with painfully cold toes and hands even with gloves and snow boots on. Next time we will take hand warmers and feet warmers with us. However on the whole the experience was fabulous and a very impressive set up. - tarjak4Helsinki, Finland70 contributionsThe 1 km scenic path along the River Oulankajoki to view the rapids and waterfall leaves from the main entrance of Oulanka Visitor Centre at the Oulanka National Park, about 50 km from Kuusamo and 40 km from Salla (eastern Lapland). The rapids are impressive, and so are the red (dolomite) rocks on the other side of the river. You will see brown bears, reindeers, bobcats (maybe), wolfhounds. we didn't see foxes. It is allways sad to see animals at cages, but I understand why these animals are here, some are found without their mom. - Camellia P15 contributionsAs a family we came to Ruka Ski Resort and was my husband and my children’s first skiing experience, myself & my hubby had Matthew as our ski instructor who was just brilliant, informative, patient and professional and kept us well informed of the rules of the slopes, we were so impressed! My 15 year old son had a lady snowboard instructor and having never snowboarded before by day 4 of lessons he was comfortably going down the black runs, phenomenal and my 7 year old was skiing beautifully by day 3/4 and coming on the blue runs with us, we are so very impressed, extremely friendly and personable staff honestly can’t recommend enough! - Geesch65Goes, The Netherlands268 contributionsWhat is not really standard in Lapland is horseriding..so exactly what we wanted to do. We booked this location and it was great fun. We were picked up in Ruka and drove to the stables with icelandic horses.
My wife is experienced driver but I am a nitwit in horsedriving…but it was soooo much fun riding an Icelandic horse in Töllt in the forest Eastern from Kuusamo..

We experienced reindeer feeding, reindeer rides, incredible dinner prepared by the best chefs, and a sauna experience second to none! We have enjoyed amazing moments organized by Tailored Adventure Rukapalvelu Team (special thanks to Eja for organizing it and all people who took care of our group during snowmobiling, karting, dogs and reindeers activity, snowshoeing, river floating,...).
An agency and team to recommend in Ruka.

They managed to set a family activity that suited us all, both experienced and non-experienced, young ones (6, 13) and adults. The scenery was beautiful and each one had a chance to ride according to his level, without compromising safety. Horses were cute and friendly, in good shape.
