It was hard work drilling through the 1 meter thick ice but reassuring to know how thick it was! Then it's a case of sitting there and hoping. The other 2 people in our group did catch something but 'they got away'.

- AnnaGee12345Adelaide, Australia61 contributionsWe met the group at their office in the centre of Rovaniemi and were transported to an out of town location. We were provided with clean and excellent quality warm clothing, boots, gloves etc before walking the short distance to the awaiting snowmobiles.
The ride through the frozen landscape was exhilarating and we loved it so much. My husband drove, whilst i took in the views and scenery. I was most excited about the ice fishing and it did mot disappoint. We did not catch anything, but that did not affect us. The weather was crisp, clear and very cold and we travelled to a traditional hut within the forrest, where we were given hot soup, coffee and cinnamon buns.
It was a truly unforgettable day! Away from the crowds and out in nature.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting a nature/thrill ride.
Safartica were a well organised tour group and their guides were exceptional. They were friendly, taught us well and spoken perfect english.

We started with a 6km drive and you can swap the driver. Then we did ice fishing. We also had sausage and tea! It was cold but brilliant experience. - Beverley B1 contributionWhat an absolutely magnificent day!!! We booked the ice fishing and snowmobile combo, unfortunately it was affected by the weather as the lake was not frozen enough for us to take the snowmobile on but that didn’t stop us having the most amazing day!!!!
Our tour guide, Jack was an exceptional host for the day! He was welcoming, engaging and humorous! Particularly with our 8 year old son.
We drove out to the lake and were given instruction and assistance for our fishing. Jack was so attentive and spent time with our family to personalise our experience…. Our son was captivated by him and his knowledge and loved being shown how to handle his fish, meanwhile our 6 year old daughter was kept entertained with a shared love of Taylor Swift and warm fires!!!
We shared lunch by the fire, cooking our catches before heading to the forest for our snow mobile experience! It wasn’t the experience we anticipated - it was better!!! We had longer on the snowmobiles, we felt safe and had lots of fun! Our 6 year old daughter was so comfortable in the in the back of the sled that she fell asleep for a little while before waking up in the middle of the forest to the most beautiful scenery!!
This trip was the highlight of our time in Rovaniemi, made all the more memorable by our guide, Jack! We cannot thank him enough. It was a laid back experience on a quiet lake, but not too far out of town. Soizic was very knowledgeable and helpful showing us the ropes. We only had one other couple and a person in training along for the tour. It was very intimate with the small group and we enjoyed the conversation with Soizic very much. - Skywood1 contributionVenturing onto the frozen expanse of the lake, my anticipation heightened as I embarked on my first ice fishing experience. With the ice thick enough to support our weight, after we choose our own fishing spot, we drilled holes and set up our gear, embracing the serene beauty of the wintry landscape.
Our guides Maik & Song are very nice & thoughtful, berry juice, coffee and delicious sausage were provided respite from the biting cold. As we patiently waited, the rhythm of nature enveloped us. Although I didn't catch any fish at the end, it's still an unforgettable memory amidst the icy stillness.

Drilling through the ice on a stunning frozen lake surrounded by snowy landscapes was both thrilling and peaceful. 🌨️✨
The guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm made the experience fun and engaging, even for beginners. A highlight was gathering around a fire for a cozy barbecue with tasty local snacks—such a memorable touch! 🔥🍴 The provided thermal gear kept us warm, and the three-hour duration was just right.
Whether you catch a fish or not (we were lucky to have 5 catches and then released them ofc!), this adventure is about immersing yourself in Lapland’s magical winter wonderland. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Rovaniemi! 🌟

The boat was very clean and had good fishing equiptment, and the guide helped us with the fish we catch.
