Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kenkävero is an interesting complex which consists of a free garden, some boutiques, the Cudgel War memorial, Santa's summertime hideaway, a restaurant and a lakeside cafe. Santa's summertime hideaway was a flop, just a small cottage and no Santa himself anywhere. But I loved boutiques and the beautiful garden. There were also some sheep and chickens in the garden. And my absolute favorite was the lakeside cafe (Rantakahvila or Rantapaviljonki). The interior was very stylish and they had a nice summer terrace, too. My smoothie and cheese cake were very delicious.

Mikkeli Cathedral was built in 1896–1897 in the Gothic Revival style. The bell tower is very high.

The interior is also strikingly beautiful. The big organ was built in 1956 by Kangasala Organ Factory. The altar painting "Crucified" was made by a known Finnish painter Pekka Halonen in 1899.

Naisvuori Observation Tower (Naisvuoren näkötorni) is a great place to see the whole city center at one time. Buy extremely cheap tickets from the cafeteria and then you may climb up the stairs. There isn't any lift there. There are changing exhibitions on the second floor. This time there was a very interesting art exhibition there.

On the top floor you see very beautiful views: the city center, lakes and forests. The tower is 27 meters tall and it is situated 71 meters above the surface of Lake Saimaa. The tower was built in 1911.

There's a permanent small garden exhibition for the garden lovers to get ideas from - or for visitors to enjoy and kids to play in. Lots of well-kept lawn for picnics and playing - and a small, nice playground.

On the other side of the lawn you can walk in the small woods and the lake-side.

    There's also a cafe.

The Kenkävero vicarage is within walking distance.

Naisvuori is the highest point in the city center. Naisvuori is a mica gneiss hill which rises 44 meters above the surface of Lake Saimaa and 122 meters over the sea level. You see interesting geological formations by the Ice Age there.

Naisvuori means literally Woman Hill. It is said that it was named after the women who observed the Battle of Porrassalmi from the hill in 1789 (or a battle of the Cudgel War in 1597 according to another version of the legend). The older women climbed on the top of the lower Akkavuori (literally Old Woman Hill) and the younger women climbed on the top of the higher Naisvuori to see a glimpse of the Battle of Porrassalmi 6 kilometers away. I am not sure if this legend is sure or not.

The water tower of Naisvuori was built in 1911. It was the first steel-reinforced concrete building in Finland. It is the oldest still remaining water tower building in Finland. However, nowadays (since 1953) it serves only as a cafe and as an observation tower (read separate Tripadvisor reviews of them).

During the Winter War (1939-1940) and the Continuation War (1941-1944) the headquarters of the Finnish Army was located in Mikkeli and caves inside Naisvuori Hill were used as the air surveillance center.

In 1971 also the swimming hall of Mikkeli was built in the rock under the hill. It is said that this swimming hall located underground is still the strongest swimming hall in the world.

Nice small place. Pricing average. We visited there with kids 5 & 9 years and spent about 6 hours in waterslides, carousels, etc. This is place where you have to go in good and warm weather. Everything is outside.
Personnel nice, almost all of them seemed to be young summer employees. Place is not new and it can be seen, but it`s in good condition and clean. Even it was hot summer day, there was not too much people.
I could visit there again. I recommend this most for kids under 10

This Mikkeli's museum of cultural history exhibits the history of Mikkeli and its region.

The museum is located in a stone building completed in 1848.

The museum's permanent exhibition presents the peasant culture of South Savo, as well as the history of the city of Mikkeli.

We are staying in town at the Sokos hotel and decided to walk a couple blocks to the center of town and discovered the market in full swing on a Sunday afternoon. There were tons of people and tons of items for purchase as well as a band and tons of great food to be eaten.

This shopping center is very centrally located next to the marketplace. Here you can find many shops, cafes, and restaurants.

The market hall and Sokos department store are located here. On the ground floor, you can find an S-market grocery store.
