The tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of Kuopio and the surrounding lakes and forests, making it a must-see attraction. The observation deck provides a unique perspective, especially during sunset when the scenery is absolutely stunning. The tower’s facilities are well-maintained, and the staff are friendly and informative. The revolving restaurant is a highlight, offering delicious food with spectacular views. Whether you're a local or a tourist, Puijo Tower is the perfect spot to appreciate the natural beauty of Finland. Whether you’re religious or not, Orthodox or otherwise, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the beauty and history here. You can stare at the icons for hours! - Johanna K65 contributionsThe museum's old side has three floors, 1st floor exhibit presents the history of Kuopio region, 2nd floor has zoological exhibit and on the 3rd floor you can find an old smoke cabin and stories of how people lived in them. This summer the changing exhibition on the new side was about monkeys /primates. You can learn a lot about primates' lives and challenges they accounter in modern world. This is also a fun place to visit with children, lots of animals including a mammoth. - Johanna K65 contributionsA block of old houses, some of them built originally on the spot, some moved later. Just the inner yard is worth a visit, you can get a sense of what it was like to live in a wooden town. Although I think they could put more thought into the yard itself, there were some old plants (herbs, lilacs, currants), but mostly it's just grass cut short with lawn mower. There were no lawn mowers in the old times, perhaps they could have more wild flowers/grasses in some areas? You find cozy sitting places, playgrounds, restaurants, summer terraces, a public sauna, sauna ferries and cruise ships there. Especially the new breakwater area is extremely cozy and the combined restaurant & sauna named Luoto is the pearl of it. So there is something for everybody at the harbor. Don’t expect the grand beauty you may see in Orthodox buildings. Kuopio Art Museum has operated since 1980 in an Art Nouveau building originally built as a bank in 1904. Now they have an interesting LEONARDO DA VINCI 3D exhibition. L3DNARDO DA VINCI is a celebration of science, art, music and imagery. The exhibition conveys the story of this great artist and scientist in an unprecedented way, combining augmented reality, holograms and immersive storytelling. Leonardo’s paintings, flying machines, imaginative war machines, drawings, notes – and much, much more are on display at the exhibition. A very interesting exhibition. This lovely area was located next to our hotel Scandic Kuopio and could be seen from our room balcony.
Surrounded by Kallavesi, Väinölänniemi is one of the oldest and most famous city parks in Kuopio. Väinölänniemi is home to Kuopio's most popular beach with palm trees and jumping towers.
All kinds of exercise and sports belong to Väinölänniemi. In addition to the athletics and football stadium, Vänäri also has fields for playing tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, and the popular padel.
A lovely beach promenade runs along the shores of Väinölänniemi, which is suitable for walking and cycling.
