Puijo Tower is a 75-meter-high observation tower at the top of Puijo hill. It was opened in 1963.

There are a cafe and a restaurant on the top of the tower with stunning panoramic views. There is a 7-euro entrance fee.

Puijo Tower was the first tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries.

You can walk to the tower from Kuopio city center. The climb is quite steep and it takes 40 minutes. Or take bus number 10 from the marketplace.

On the western side are stairs next to the ski jumping hills. We descended that way back to the city center.

This lake and the park around it are located near the city center.

Extensive lawns and park benches give you the opportunity to stop for a picnic and enjoy the beauty of the lake. You can take a swim on the sandy beach.

Valkeisenlampi is a free fishing area.

The park also features a bust of Alexander Pushkin and a female sculpture named Springtime.

When you visit Kuopio doesn’t miss RIISA- the Finnish Orthodox Church Museum, which shows items and icons from many monasteries from Finland and Russia, if you are interested in church history. It is little outside the city center, so it can be difficult to find. Many maybe think it is little odd museum, but I think it is a part of Finnish history. I liked the museum. RIISA - The Orthodox Church Museum of Finland is a nationally, internationally and regionally significant specialty museum. The museum was founded in Kuopio in 1957. The museum continues the activities of the Ancient Monument Collection, founded in 1911 at the Valamo Monastery. The Church Museum is managed by the Foundation of the Finnish Orthodox Church Museum .RIISA's mission is to record, preserve, study and exhibit the unique cultural heritage related to the history of the Finnish Orthodox Church and to utilize it for educational and teaching purposes.

Kuopio Museum is located in a stunning Art Nouveau-style castle building completed in 1907 next to Snellman Park. This museum is the third oldest museum building in Finland after the Helsinki Ateneum (1887) and the Turku Art Museum (1904).

The museum was closed for renovations in 2018. At the same time, the museum was connected to the adjacent library. The building connecting the Kuopio Museum and the City Library was opened to the public in February 2021.

On our visit, the only exhibition was Leonardo da Vinci. The other exhibitions were still under construction.

Kuopio Art Museum also has an exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci. So there was plenty the same at two different museums.

It was interesting to wander around in different houses and rooms from old days of Kuopio. It is nice that they preserved the old houses. In many towns they have been destroyed long ago. It was so much to see, that time run out to early. Old Kuopio Museum consists of a block of eleven old wooden houses. The oldest buildings on the block are from the late 1700s and the youngest from the late 1800s. Their interiors represent living conditions and living styles of different families from the 1800s to the 1930s. In addition, there is a pharmacy house, an exhibition hall and a room dedicated to the renowned local author Minna Canth. Kuopio was almost completely a wooden house city until the mid-1900s. The city never had to face widespread fires that destroyed many similar cities in Finland and even bomb strikes during war times didn’t demolish much of Kuopio.

Kuopio has its lakeside location on the shores of Kallavesi. There is a harbor for lake traffic.

The harbor with its restaurants is at its best during the summertime. On our visit in September, it was already quite dead.

During the summer, you can enjoy a cruise on a passenger steamer departing from the harbor.

This museum contains a collection of old cars, motorbikes, and motoring-related gadgets, for example taxi meters and license plates.

The entrance fee is 4 euros. The tickets are bought from the museum cafe.

I like shopping at Matkus. It is nice to have all the shops under the same roof, with nice eating places and big grocery store and even IKEA. There is definitely something for everyone!

Passed this little church on my way towards the lake Kallavesi. A bright autumn day added a little extra visually.

Kuopio Art Museum is the heart of art in the centre of Kuopio, only a short distance from the Market Place. Kuopio Art Museum has operated since 1980 in an Art Nouveau building originally built as a bank in 1904. Now they have an interesting LEONARDO DA VINCI 3D exhibition. L3DNARDO DA VINCI is a celebration of science, art, music and imagery. The exhibition conveys the story of this great artist and scientist in an unprecedented way, combining augmented reality, holograms and immersive storytelling. Leonardo’s paintings, flying machines, imaginative war machines, drawings, notes – and much, much more are on display at the exhibition. A very interesting exhibition. They own collection is on display upstairs.

VB is an abbreviation from Victor Barsokevitsch. He was a photographer in Kuopio who was one of the best-known photographers in Finland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

His photoshop was destroyed by fire in 1893, but a new building was built on what is now the VB Photographic Center.

On our visit, there was an exhibition called 'Icons - An Exhibition about the Right to Exist'. It presented interesting portraits of famous icons and archetypes.

We stop by the wine farm, and I think it was quite cute place. Sure, they could maybe uplift the yard and terrace area, but maybe the perfect weather made the place still quite nice. The indoor restaurant area instead would really need some uplifting. We tasted some wines and it was great that they also serve small wine portions. I took two different wine 6cl. Also I would have liked that they have served more food options, or some smaller tapas kind of food also.

Väinölänniemi, more commonly known as Vänäri, is a park and sports area right next to the center of Kuopio. This lovely area was located next to our hotel Scandic Kuopio and could be seen from our room balcony.

Surrounded by Kallavesi, Väinölänniemi is one of the oldest and most famous city parks in Kuopio. Väinölänniemi is home to Kuopio's most popular beach with palm trees and jumping towers.

All kinds of exercise and sports belong to Väinölänniemi. In addition to the athletics and football stadium, Vänäri also has fields for playing tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, and the popular padel.

A lovely beach promenade runs along the shores of Väinölänniemi, which is suitable for walking and cycling. Along the way, there are three gazebos where you can stop to rest and admire the surrounding lake scenery.
