Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A must see place in Åland. The museum was made for all ages. Something for the older People and something for children. Whenever I visit Åland, I make time for this place.

The museum was also made interesting for young people. It is worth setting aside time to go through the ship and the museum, both the ship and the museum have many floors to explore. It was worth the price and I recommend visiting.

I was intensely curious about this place because it’s visible from the ferry from Turku to Mariehamn and back. I finally had an opportunity to go and it’s so worth a visit! The old pilot house is now a museum and gift shop, and has a small cafe run by volunteers—I highly recommend the Åland pancake. The old beacon now has a large, airy, light-filled meeting space that’s perfect for group activities. And the rocky island has a colony of snakes! (But they’re shy and you’ll have to search pretty hard to find one.)
If you’re lucky enough to be there during a ferry crossing, you’ll see a massive ship sailing within feet of the island (or so it seems). It’s an amazing sight.

Lilla Holmen is close to the city center. It is an old excursion destination, especially suitable for families with children.

There is a public beach, a playground, and a tiny zoo where you can watch small animals.

Although I'm not a fan of hunting, this museum delves deeply into the sports of Fishing and Hunting. It provides good insight into the sports with fine exhibits. It never veers off to the gruesome so that this is a good museum for everyone.

An interesting destination right next to the city center. Here you can see a good cross-section of how the sea and the people of Åland belong together. In addition, a few shops.

Good for children, especially the water war. Pricy for adults, since nothing to do. Would probably generate more visitors if free for adults.

An easy drive from Mariehamn by car, surprisingly we ended spending a good part of the afternoon here. It’s a cluster of sights including a prison, preserved wooden buildings and the castle itself. The castle is suitably austere and atmospheric. There was plenty of informative panels in Swedish, Finnish and English. It involves a scramble up and down stairways and walkways to get the measure of the place. The prison comprised a small building where the warden’s family lived on site was fascinating. There was a guide on hand for orientation. He also pointed out the Russian era whipping post which was described as receiving “Russian massage”There was a small park of rural buildings dating eighteenth and nineteenth proving insights into cottage industries and agricultural life. We had lunch at the distillery that was very pleasant.

One of the places you absolutely have to visit while in Åland. The views are stunning, and even more if you climb up to the observation tower.

This museum is located in the same building as the Cultural History Museum of Åland. So you get two museums for one ticket.

The art museum presents art on the Åland Islands from sculptures to paintings.

The museum regularly presents special exhibits. At this year's summer exhibition, Swedish artist Ernst Billgren meets his Åland colleague Jonas Wilen.

This multi-purpose stadium is located near the city center in Mariehamn. However, it is used mainly for football matches. It is the home ground of IFK Mariehamn.

The stadium has a capacity of 1 635 people and was originally built in 1932 but has been modernized after that. A renovated auditorium was built in 2005.

Well organized. Crappy referees. Fun times. We will come back. The cafe needs more sandwiches and lighter lunches.

Excellent old church in Åland, one of the oldest churches in Finland. There are some spectacular old wall paintings still visible. Close t o the center of Mariehamn, can easily be reached by bicycle.
