What travellers are saying
- Helen HExeter, UK2 contributionsWell laid out collection of artefacts discovered across Kalymnos. And it’s open, despite what TripAdvisor says! The descriptions and translations are excellent. Broad collection from prehistoric to medieval. Particularly fine collection of classical statuary. bargain price, sensible opening hours. Not hard to find, although a little way back from the port - just use Google maps.Written 10 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- lars friskSlagelse, Denmark29 contributionsone of the best beach, lot of lokale use it, little teverna on the beach, and one resaurant on the roadWritten 22 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Alison L SSpringfield, MA818 contributionsVery good little museum of the traditional cottage of a Greek sponge diving family. Excellent & informative presentation also. Loved the family bed with the baby's rocking cradle overhead.Written 11 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TomBeverly Hills, MI2 contributionsHad a very informative discussion with the owners about the modern sponge business, sustainability, and the advantages of natural sponges over manmade. Looking forward to using our new sponges when we get home!Written 23 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Alison L SSpringfield, MA818 contributionsWhile not imbued with centuries of history, this monastery is well worth a visit for its beautiful chapels and gorgeous location overlooking Portia and the Aegean Sea. Impressive modern murals and stained glass. (I particularly loved the peacocks.) Peaceful, lovely bell cloister near the top of the hill. Walk around the various patios and porches for many gorgeous views.Written 12 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Eileen108Mount Shasta, CA3,809 contributionsThe Folklore Museum (aka Maritime Museum aka Ναυτικό Μουσείο Καλύμνου) was free and had several rooms with displays of mainly sponge-diving artifacts: equipment, photos, samples of sponges, etc. The very personal way it was done, with so many family photos, was deeply touching. You could almost feel you were a part of the community. I would recommend a visit! - Sue_and_Andy_66Horsforth, UK3,978 contributionsStopping off point whilst on the three island cruise. Lovely crescent shaped beach, very soft sand and lovely warm shallow clear sees. Clearly gets very busy and crowded as the boats arrive. A few shops all selling the same fare, locally produced honey, arts and crafts and then the usual tat.
An hour here was long enough but well worth a visit nonetheless.

In actual fact this immense rock face, called Grande Grotta, is divided up into three sectors, each with different characteristics, but each with one unique quality: the exceptional rock and routes.
the routes start way on the left at the sector "Afternoon", which gets its name from the fact that it stays in the shade until after midday. The sector is marked by its enormous corner, and offers about 20 easy routes on rough rock.
The central wall, the "Grande Grotta", is perhaps the most impressive overhang on Kalymnos and definitely an obligatory stop-off point for those climbing hard routWritten 24 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - azascUst-Labinsk, Russia31 contributionsWe visited Chora with a group. Long way to go up stairs but definitely worth it. Some buildings are still stay on.Written 25 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- EzisRiga, Latvia379 contributionsReally way out of crowds. You will need car or scooter to get here. When we came here for swimming just one more couple was on beach.Written 8 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- VenetiasamosAthens, Greece363 contributionsLonely beach, nice and clean. There is a small cantine, opening when the boss wakes up, so bring your own coffee. It is nice to relax, no noise, no internet, just the sound of the waves.Written 30 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sue WBolton, UK183 contributionsActually just sat under a restaurant and watched the sunset with our own beer. Think there was more of a commercial beach further up 😂 good views of telendosWritten 24 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KostasGianPiraeus, Greece5 contributionsTerrific museum, living history, the tour (in Greek) reveals enchanting details on the traditional life of the island!Written 4 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- N HNewton Le Willows, UK3,344 contributionsA good overview of the sponge industry and it's history. Great demos of the different types of sponges and their characteristics.
Free guide - well worth seeing.Written 13 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Martin P19 contributionsA beautiful 2 hour walk from Pothia into the Vathy valley. The old "Italiko monopati" track remains well paved in parts but some sections are crumbling so you do need hiking footwear. To return by bus, the main bus stop is in the square behind Rina harbour.Written 9 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
