We loved every second of our Zaanse Schans tour! The windmill tours were informative and awe-inspiring, and my 4 year old loved the wooden shoe making demonstration. The shops had nice items for reasonable prices. Nice cafe with a basic lunch. Highly recommended!!!

Just an 11-minute train ride from central Amsterdam, Stadshart Zaandam provides a charming and less crowded shopping experience. The main street is lined with a variety of shops, offering something for every taste. Visitors are welcomed by the iconic Inntel Hotel, designed to resemble traditional Dutch houses, adding to the area's unique appeal. Stadshart Zaandam seamlessly blends modern shopping convenience with the charm of traditional Dutch surroundings. It's an ideal escape from the city's hustle and bustle, featuring friendly locals, cosy cafes, and picturesque streets. For a relaxing and enjoyable day of shopping, Stadshart Zaandam is a top choice.

Went here on a day trip from our river cruise. Thoroughly enjoyed the live 20minute clog making demonstration, very good indeed. Would definitely recommend calling for a look.

Clean shopping area with food options. The hotel near the train station is interesting. There are plenty of places to chill near the canal. It did seem to be a bit rough at night though.

The paintings are excellent and creative. Also with a pub and associated products for sell. You can enjoy a cup of beer and shopping apart from enjoying the paintings. The paintings will be renewed frequently. Owner of the gallery is nice and friendly.

This is a working windmill that grinds pigments and dye to make paint. Its fascinating to be inside the windmill and there is an opportunity to climb the windmill and get some great views, I chose not to climb for health reasons but I stood by a small window and got a perfect view!

Nice from the outside. Was closed when we got there.
Better places to see around Zaandam unless the museum is open and interesting for you.

It was cool to see some dutch windmills. They aren't too far from amsterdam. The detail in the crafting was interesting and they look picturesque by the river.

An interesting museum. The audio tour is very informative and they have done their best to add some interactive elements. Please note, the museum is not in Zaandam (use the Zaandijk train station instead).

This windmill is a working windmill situated near many others. This particular one was an oil mill before being converted to be a dye mill. However where it's situated at the moment was not it's original site. You can pay a small fee of € 5,00 and go inside this interesting mill, or just wander around outside if you prefer as there is a path running along the river and passes by the windmills in the area.

We were staying at Zaanse Schans and walked to this lovely Mill Museum. We found it most interesting as we both volunteer at a Mill in England. Very well presented. Lots of information including videos.
