Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having visited over ten years ago I was surprised to find the exhibition had changed so dramatically and was initially thinking that it would not be as accessible as before.

However the update including an audio guide enabled an enhanced understanding of the terrors the family experienced and how it felt to be hiding from the world. You cannot help but be moved by Anne’s story.

For me this was another piece of the jigsaw having already visited The Topography of Terror in Berlin, The Shoah Memorial in Paris and Auschwicz/ Birkenau.
We also visited the Verzetsmuseum whilst in Amsterdam which gave amazing insight into the role of the resistance fighters in WW2

Be sure to book a ticket and time slot in advance. People were being turned away as we arrived. You can’t go spontaneously. We were there about an hour. Definitely won’t take more than two.

Vermeer brought us to Amsterdam - Great exhibition- well organised however popularity has been its Achilles heel. Crowded and unfortunately the mobile phone brigade slow proceedings down considerably. It’s a shame some are so rude - the majority just want to see the precious pieces. The museum is well worth a visit. Don’t overlook the excellent restaurant- service/ food and friendly staff are top notch

Vondelpark is the city park of Amsterdam. It is a vast area with plenty of greenery and lush spaces for picnic or just a leisure stroll. Great option to escape the urban bust.

The Jordaan is a peaceful, quiet place to visit. Quite a contrast to the busy streets only a few blocks away. Very scenic, with the houseboats on the canals, stone bridges, historic buildings and tree lined streets.

Huge station with easy access to the trams and free river ferry across to the north.
There is a full arcade of shops and cafes etc to explore so if you have a stopover between trains or need to wait for your train there is plenty to explore.

Purchase timed tickets ahead of time on line.

What a wonderful experience with many interactive sequences. Tours come with free samples. Don’t miss the rooftop for splendid views of Amsterdam. Perfect time to snap photos.

    Guides are friendly and spirited.

There is a cloakroom and water closet available for guests.

Absolutely loved this museum. An immersive and inventive way to discover the history of Amsterdam. The audio tour was engaging and informative, the facilities were clean, and staff very friendly. A surprisingly tranquil and calm space in the heart of Amsterdam’s red light district!

It was quite an eye opener to see how open Amsterdam is to sexuality of all forms. It seems they do a good job of protecting sex workers from abuse. I didn't search extensively, but it would have been nice to have a brochure and map that explained the various streets and what is offered. It seems that an organized tour is the best way to see this area at this time.

We decided last minute to go to the Rembrandt House and knew we had to get there very early. When we got there we used the QR code on the door to buy the last tickets available.
This museum is fantastic and should be your #2 thing to do in Amsterdam after the Anne Frank house. Wonderful Staff and great experience. Oh, and good workout on the stairs climbing through the house. If you have mobility issues, check with the staff to see about accommodation.

This is the historical centre of Amsterdam. The name comes from its original function as a dam on the Amstel river in 1270.
There are plenty of places to sit and “people watch” whilst also having access to the Royal Palace, the National Monument, Gothic New Church and Madame Tussaud’s. We were there early in order to enter the Palace as it opened but the vibe improves with the crowds.

This museum excelled beyond our expectations allowing us to fully understand the role the Resistance played in WW2 and added the final piece of the jigsaw to our knowledge of this horrendous historic event. The museum presents the facts in a human format with true stories of about individuals who played a role during the war and the decisions they made.

There were so many more aspects to the Resistance that I wasn’t aware of in how they helped the war effort and I left thinking “what would I have done in the situations these individuals faced?”

We also visited Anne Franks House whilst in Amsterdam having previously visited the Gestapo Headquarters in Berlin, the Jewish Shoah Memorial in Paris and Auschwitz Birkenau.
