Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice tour, comfortable boat, delicious cheese and good wine. Would have been nice to be a little longer and learn a little bit more about the city but overall was a nice tour.

Relaxing way to see the canals while enjoying some wine and cheese. Captain James kept us Entertain as well as being a great skipper.

Booked a 9:30 cruise but this was changed to 8 …it was still bright so didn’t experience the evening lights effect. There are better boats I saw where you are facing forward in the direction of travel of the boat. This boat you are sitting around it which makes it a strain on your neck/body twisting to see the sights. Wouldn’t take this boat type again…lots of better options at much better prices going from in front of Central station.

We had a great time even though it rained off and on we were able to open the flaps to enjoy all the views the guide was talking about. Our guide Nicholas was great and very entertaining. We usually don't do group guides but everyone was friendly and we enjoyed ourselves.

The cheese and wine was great. There were a selection of 4 Gouda cheeses of which, the pesto was my favourite. The wine was constantly being topped up and there was also the option of a soft drink. I would've liked more variety with the cheese as it was just one type of cracker but still ok. I enjoyed that it was informative but the driver didn't speak throughout the whole journey which was nice as you got to have your own conversations without feeling like you were interrupting.

I booked the ‘Amsterdam Private Boat Trip with Unlimited Drinks’ for a group of 13 on 17/09 @ 17:00 as part of a stag-do.

The pick-up location was a 5-minute walk away from Central station & members of the team were clearly visible when we arrived.

Our trip included unlimited Heineken, red or white wine, water, and various fizzy drinks. There was an option to upgrade to include sprits, but we were happy with the beer!

Unfortunately, I did not catch the skippers name, but he was a great host, who was knowledgeable, funny & made our experience even better.

I would not hesitate in recommending this to all visiting Amsterdam.

Nice crew, good story , cozy sphere.
Drinks are very poor , if you ask for wine you get a very little bodem in the glass.

Overall, it was fun and informative, but it seemed to move a little slowly. But it was a good last-minute addition to our itinerary when we decided we wanted to do something cheese related. All the cheeses were good, but the oldest one was our favorite.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience with Chef Eliane this past Friday night. We were lucky that no one else had booked and so we had her all to ourselves.

The wine and cheese pairings were wonderful (I knew I loved Dutch cheeses already, but had no idea that I would love their wines also), but what really made the evening special was all of our wonderful conversations--it was such a fun experience to get to know this lovely 1/2 Dutch, 1/2 French woman and to hear her stories about how those cultures compare to each other (and to ours, from the US). We talked about everything under the sun, including parenting, family relationships, food and wine (of course), politics, and travel (Eliane is a quite the world traveler and we had so many fun places in common). We ended up as fast friends and went well over the allotted time of our tour...that's just how genuine and generous she is.

If you're considering booking this tour and want a truly authentic experience with a local, this is definitely for you! Don't hesitate; book now before she fills up! She also teaches cooking classes, and we will definitely be signing up for those on our next trip back!

A note on finding her place (Tripadvisor/Viator don't list her actual address): When you get off the metro at Zuid, exit toward Mahlerplein. Go straight (pass the HEMA on the left) and between big skyscrapers (e.g., Accenture on the right). Turn left on a big street (Gustav Mahlerlaan). The first building you'll pass on the right is a really large orange high rise; the next building after that on the right is hers. For a marker, across the street from her pinkish brown building is the ABN-Amro bank building. Her building is called the Xavier building in case you need to ask someone (a few of the windows on the side of the building have small signs that say "xavier", but it is otherwise not very well marked as such. Important: her apartment is not through this front entrance (we tried to use the door ringer buttons there, but it wasn't correct). Instead, you'll keep walking until the end of the building (there's an ice cream shop at the corner) and then turn right on Rosie Wertheimstraat . About halfway down is another door way with call buttons; this time you scroll down the list to find 8b, and when you call her, she will buzz you through the two sets of doors to enter her apartment.

This is my third food tour using WithLocals, and Marten did not disappoint. In fact, I've decided that with every new city I visit, I will have to book a tour!

Marten's love of his country and his city were evident during this three-hour tour. He helped us understand how Amsterdam has been influenced by a melting pot of cultures and cuisines, and he shared tidbits about the country's social systems, the way it embraces multiculturalism, and strives to support families and the environment.

Along the way, I fell in love with this vibrant, cosmopolitan city. We tried some tasty treats, including locally produced cheeses, herring from a long-time fish vendor, stroopwafels made as we watched, and Suranamese food at family-owned restaurant. We strolled through the Pijp district, the Albert Cuyp market, and local parks.

Food was part of the tour, but Marten made it so much more than just a food tour. I would highly recommend this experience.

(Note: This was for a trip I took in May 2019, but I was recently reminded of the wonderful experience and decided to post here.)
