Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The central market is an awesome experience and gives you a true feeling of being in at an Italian market.

It's a bit out of the way, but near Santa Croce. Way less touristy then Centrale, and many locals seem to shop here. Nothing mind blowing, but worth checking out if you're into markets, or want to pick up a few things for a picnic.

Florence is a city of heart. Everywhere you look everywhere you go there is art. And it’s stunning. All of it. The thing I really liked about this gallery is the style of their art. The Guarnieri brothers, Roberto and Rodolfo, have spent years working their craft and it shows. Combining the ancient history of the city of Florence and the Italian legacy of frescos and adding a modern flair, I’ve not seen anything like their work anywhere else. The art is unique, bold and fun with a balance of color and design, these brothers create beautiful paintings and frescos that are pleasing to the eye and food for the soul. They are also very nice to visit with. Kind, generous and dedicated to their vision I really enjoyed this experience and would highly recommend visiting this gallery.

My first visit to Florence was in 2013 and I fell in love so hard I’ve been back every year - sometimes twice in one year. The thing about Florence is that it’s such a wonderful, walkable city with friendly locals and new culinary/shopping surprises around each corner and down every narrow street. I find incredible shops and restaurants each time I visit. I still have some of my favorite haunts that I return to over and over and highly recommend to family and friends when they visit - Franco’s David 2/Dante is one of those highly recommended spots for leather fashions.

I’ve visited and bought beautiful leather items from several custom shops throughout the city, but when I visited David 2 last year, that experience took the cake. The jackets and coats are truly unique compared to the other high-end leather boutiques - from stylish leather silhouettes for both the ladies and gents to options in Italian cashmere and mink/fur.

Once you walk in, Franco and his skilled staff will show you several options to get an idea of what you like, don’t like. They’ll ask what your climate is like back home (mine is warm in the winter so heavy jackets and thick leather are a waste for me) and fit you with several styles to see what looks amazing on you. My one fashion tip: just try them all on - I was “meh” on a couple of styles, but then, when I saw them on me, I completely changed my mind. That is one of the big reasons to shop in Florence with an open mind. Franco knows body types and which styles work - as he says…”trust me.”

Not only did I buy one jacket, I bought three! Plus, a cashmere coat that was a surprise for my husband for Christmas. They will want to customize each item to fit you perfectly - sleeve length, jacket/coat length, perhaps another type of fabric or leather. If it needs to be custom made (no extra charge!) they will ship it directly to your home. No need to be nervous - my husband’s surprise coat was beautiful and at my house within a month.

One more tidbit - on my last visit with friends a couple of weeks ago, I introduced them to Franco. He was charming as usual, but he had some more styles that I did not see last year. Of course, I ended up buying two more that day. Awaiting them to be delivered in a few weeks. My friends also ended up buying several as well. The best part for my friend? The jacket she wanted was in her size but had a small spot on the lining. Of course, Franco insisted on making a brand new one for her and shipping it home - but, he also insisted on her taking the other jacket and wearing while she was in Florence. She was thrilled and it was such a great example of Franco’s generosity and the family feel of Dante’s.

Jacopo and Bruno are really masters in Pietra Dura Mosaics, the best masters. Each one of their works is a masterpiece, unique, precious and perfect. If you forgot to buy a mosaic in the "bottega" in Florence it is not too late: buy your precious Italian artworks at commessofiorentino dotcom

You know how when you go to a great museum sometimes you wish you could buy a ancient trinket? Well here's your chance. At least it's a chance to see how much an antique helmet or sword or gun would set you back. It's so great. Tiffany lamps? yes Beautiful china? Yes 2 stores run by great people. We'll go back. And we even bought something so it's not too outrageous.

You can find a wide array of clothing and household goods there at really reasonable prices. Clothing in abundance. Be aware you won't find high fashion designer clothes but you will find an interesting array of really inexpensive clothing - shirts, sweaters, jackets, socks, etc. I was disappointed, however, that the vendors begin packing up around noon, particularly if it is raining. Plan to be there early.

If you are looking for a place for some extremely unique souvenirs from Florence this is the place. You can get buttons, stickers, t-shirts, playing cards and much more. These were a big hit with our kids, grandkids and friends. Clet is apparently sometimes in attendance, but he happened to be in L.A. when we were here.

My sister and I were on the search for a well-made shearling jacket during our time in Florence. We stumbled upon Jimmy’s and were so happy we did so. Mario asked us a few questions about the style we were looking for and then picked out some amazing jackets that fit us incredibly well. There was no pressure to buy, which I really appreciated. In the end, my sister and I each got a jacket that we loved and will treasure for a long time.

Saw this on the James May video of Florence and thought I’d have a look. It’s a shop, but what a shop. Lot’s of rooms all linked in with a museum. You can smell the perfumes. However, they are very expensive (£210 a bottle). Staff are all really nice. Free to get in.

Recommend anyone visiting Florence to go and take a look.

Enoteca Ponteveccio was such a find during my recent trip to Florence. I was looking for some gifts from Italy and Laura and the staff there were very helpful. We ended up pairing some Limoncello, balsamic vinegar and olive oil that they arranged to have shipped home for us. I'm not much of a wine drinker, so we did not partake in the wines, but they do have other items to choose from. It was definitely a hidden gem during our trip. They were so accommodating and our purchase arrived safely at home a day or two after we got home. Great experience!

Whether or not you end up buying any of the leather goods (bags, belts, jackets) in this market, in my opinion it is worth going just to breathe in that amazing smell of leather. I ended up getting a couple of belts of nice Italian leather. They'll haggle with you but I didn't push too hard. At one end of the market, there is a bronze boar (though it's a replica of the original by Pietro Tacca) where tourists rub its nose to ensure they come back to Florence. (Use hand sanitizer!)

This is such a beautiful, vintage store in Florence. The store owner, Valentina, is so wonderful and kind while making you a priority not only as a customer, but as a human. Her collection of vintage designer pieces from the 20th century is extensive with mid-century and luxury influences. Her curation also includes non-designer items that are just as phenomenal, but prepare to teleport into an elegant, eclectic past of fashion.

She was just closing up when I stumbled in, but she allowed me stay a little later to browse around some. I even Facetimed my mother to show her the store and also to see if she wanted anything that caught her eye, which Valentina was glad to assist with. I ended up seeing this gorgeous ruby red gold ring, which was something I have been on the hunt for since ruby is my birthstone. We had a nice chat about the ring's origins, and I couldn't leave the store without it. It almost brought me to tears over how beautiful it is. Anyways, I will be returning soon the next time I'm in Florence.
