Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well worth a visit. Pay attention to the ticket you buy as some let you access the museum in the crypt as well. The rooftop is amazing with beautiful views across the square and amazing views of the stone masonry.

This is one of the most recognizable pieces of art in the world and something you must experience in Milan. However, you will need to plan ahead as only a maximum of 35 people are allowed to see the painting at one time in 15 minute slots.

Reservations are an absolute must. We tried getting tickets through the official website 2-3 months in advance, but still could not get anything and had to go with a guided tour through GetYourGuide (suspect the guided tours take up a lot of the slots as both our time slot and the one after were led by guides. Through GetYourGuide, we were given detailed instructions on where to meet. We found our guide, Anna Pinto, holding a GetYourGuide sign at the promised time where she gathered our group of around 30 people and briefed us on logistics, the history of Milan, the church, Leonardo da Vinci and the Last Supper. We each got radio receivers so we could hear her clearly.

We were then led to get our tickets which required us to show an ID (driver’s license was fine). The name had to match the name supplied on your reservation. There were lockers in the ticket office in case you had large bags or any food/drinks that were not allowed inside. From there we were led into the entrance where there was a quick security check and then off to a holding area outside the refectory. During this time our guide continued sharing details about the refectory and the painting. This point is an excellent time to get your cameras ready. Once the automatic glass doors open, you will walk inside and to your right is the Last Supper.

Our guide continued with thorough explanations, though I honestly was not paying attention as I was trying to take photos. The painting is lit dimly but enough that you can see clearly and take photos (no flash allowed of course). The rest of the room though is even dimmer making it challenging to take photos with people. Our entire group was unsurprisingly clustered in front of the Last Supper. There is another painting opposite the Last Supper depicting the Crucifixion that no one was paying much attention to.

When your 15 minutes is up, you will be shepherded out into a separate room that has more details about the Last Supper. Our guide continued with some very insightful details into the history of the painting. Finally we ended up in a courtyard and parted ways with our guide. By the courtyard, there was a souvenir shop and toilets. The whole experience lasted about an hour. After exiting, you can visit the church next door for free.

Overall, the experience was a bit hectic with the time limit, but certainly one of the things you must do when visiting Milan. While having a guide added to the cost (4 times more than a regular ticket), it greatly helped with the insightful information and details an unguided tour would not have had. Our guide in particular spent the entire time feeding us information and spoke clearly in English.

We loved this spot so much that my son proposed while we were visiting. Can't wait to see the renovations completed at the entrance.

This is the main square of Milan. Two main structures that border the square are the Duomo and the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II. There is also a statue of King Vittoria Emanuele II in the middle of the square. The Duomo subway station is near the statue of King Vittoria Emanuele II.

This church is often called the "Sistine Chapel of Milan" due to its stunningly beautiful interior paintings. Literally, everywhere you look is covered with artwork.

Magnificent images of saints, martyrs and benefactors adorn the walls and ceilings entirely, in a decorative fresco cycle that takes the visitor through the evolution of Lombard painting in the 16th century.

The layout of this church is unique, as the single elongated rectangular nave is separated in two parts by a dividing wall: the outer section was reserved to laymen while the enclosure was for the cloistered nuns to attend Holy Mass.

The church was once attached to the most important female Benedictine convent in Milano, from the 8th - 9th century up until 1798. The nuns came from noble families in the city, who generously bequeathed the monastery with great riches that made commissions for such intricate and precious embellishment possible!

It was a lovely sunny day when we visited. Great to just stroll around, then choose somewhere to sit for food or a drink and enjoy the area.

  • Getting towards the end of a weekend city break in Milan in early October last year, the wander to the city to get to the cemetery was beautiful in and of its self meandering through Milan old and new.

The cemetery itself is a stunning monument to opulence, style, and mortality. At every turn you see the celebration of life and death, with graves for families, the old and young alike.

This really feels like a place where life is celebrated for what it is, the daily toil of industry, personal expression through style and achievement, death and remembrance.
A truly beautiful tribute to those gone before.

Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, more thought-provoking than a cappuccino and a Danish. However, if you’re that way inclined, this is a beautiful way to spend a Sunday morning.

Need to be booked in advance. Only 35 persons are allowed in every 15 minutes. We used Tiqets and it worked very well. All the different companies and guides made it a bit hard to locate the guide outside the church. Our guide Lorenzo was very good and did all the talking outside so that we could enjoy the Last Supper mural by Da Vinci in peace. The whole tour was about 1 hour.

Lombard Romanesque architecture, that means the main parts we could see are from 10th and 11th centuries
of course, the basilica has been founded around 380 AD, by the nowadays patron saint of the city, Saint Ambrose, a very important Christian figure of the early centuries; his tomb rest in the pulpit
the basilica is closed between 12 and 2.30 pm, even the courtyard; it is free to visit from 10 am to 12 and from 2.30 to 6 pm
I think it is a must to visit in Milano, to remind a little bit the early stages of Christianity, to pray, to meditate

Beautiful area to spend a day. Or at least few hours. Many boutique store for designers I’ve never heard of, which was a nice change. Places to eat or just get coffee are on just about every corner, lovely architecture, museums…. If you are in Milan definitely worth a visit.

Although this little church is so near piazza del Duomo, very little people visit it. That makes it a peacefull, lovely place to be. You enter the church through an iron gate and across a small courtyard. The optical illusion above the altar is a nice surprise.
