Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Travellers interested to know the origins of Spanish culture, shall start from this museum. Smaller, compared to other European archeological museums (for instance Vienna) however of equal importance. I visited the floor with the exhibition on Iberia Peninsula only as the Greek exhibition was closed. To summarize, I came out of the museum with knowledge on the cultural history of Iberian Peninsula and amazed from the beautiful artefacts I saw and the informative text. You will adore the bust of the Iberian Lady/Queen and the bronze roman law scripts. It has also an interesting atrium with a skylight and wooden cladded staircase. Easy to navigate.

    Do not miss it.

We passed by a couple of times and we were always impressed by the beautiful buildings and the fountain. Perhaps a guided tour where they explain the history of the place would have been nice, either way amazing spot in Madrid.

Had high expectations for Salamanca touring - as read it was very posh, many mansions, etc. It is true there is high end shopping but very spread out, and perhaps a mini narrow mansion (not as opulent as Paris, etc) squeezed in between other buildings. It was far more busy (weekday - noon) than expected, even on less busy streets - didn't seem very posh or peaceful. Not a must see unless really into high end shopping.

While walking through Retiro Park, the Puerta de Alcala is worth seeing. It is majestic and a beautiful structure, and only the Royal Family can physically go through it. It is a great photo spot and worth seeing as this gate is rich in history and is one of the main gates to the city of Madrid.

Wonderful installations, my daughter had fun. Unfortunately som of the staff wasn’t very polite. My daughter enjoyed playing. We purchased tickets with ice cream at the end of the tour. It turned out they didn’t have any tables to sit. It isn’t very convenient to walk around a mall with two ice cream scoops wrapped in Belgian waffle. When we sat at the food court downstairs we were asked to leave unless we purchased something from the surrounding shops. Very rude.

Covid is currently restricting life in all its facets, not least of these the art world, and yes, it has touched the magnificent Galdiano. But should you yearn for great art, lovely old home decor, and a tranquil place to get away, then get over to northern Serrano district to the Galdiano.
I went in the morning on the weekend, always good to beat the queue. And was able to spend some time in the Goya room where the collection of the Witches Sabbat paintings hang. Personally, I just love Goya. They also have The Third of May 1808, another must see of all art.
You may also get a tour or spend time in the gardens. All good ideas.

Very impressive statue of a female figure in a chariot within a fountain in the middle of the Plaza de Cibeles. You will have to go early or late to be confident of getting a good shoot unobscured by a vehicle but therearea number of good postcards available. Best with a background of the palacio.

One of the most remarkable buildings in Madrid. It is located at the crossroads of Grand Via and Calle de Alcala. I think the building was built in the early 20th century by a French architect.

El Retiro is an amazing place and the lake with this monument at its head is magnificent. Although noone was was on the lake the day we were there, boats appear to be for rent below this statue.

Mercado de La Paz is a beautiful market, for its displays and food offerings. Many a review have attested to that.

The pleasant surprise is the Portuguese shop, Maninha Sardinha, which sells Portuguese wine, canned fish, coffee (also from Timor), and perhaps one its most iconic treats, pasteis de nata. Having been to Portugal prior to visiting Spain I was so pleased to see a shop offer pasteis de nata. Even more so, when I sampled one (with port wine which is their creation), so crispy its crust and so flavorful its content.

I also tried the chicken rice with raisin dish, a specialty of Maria mom’s cooking. Maria runs the shop and has an interesting family history. All dishes were wonderfully enjoyable.

For sure, when in Madrid next I will stop by this local market and indulge in Portuguese products from Maninha Sardinha. IMO Portuguese food is underrated compared to better known ones from the Continent!

Went to see a game. Madrid v Olympiacos. Great venue. Pretty much every seat has a good view of the court. We sat in Goya and out seats were great.

This is an amazing museum in Madrid, close to O'Donnell metro station. The main exhibition shows the history of currency, coins and bills from Ancient times. It is a great way to learn about the history of different civilizations and cultures. The museum also offers temporary exhibitions like the one dedicated to Roberto Michel, an architect from the 18th century.

This is an impressive church close to El Retiro Park. It is a Neo-Byzentine temple. The church was inaugurated in 1911 thanks to the generous donation of a Catalan family
The most beautiful thing is the dome and the marble altar.
    Mass is celebrated at 8.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. during the weekdays.

This palace may look ordinary from the outside but inside it is quite different. It is full of the finest and most oppulent antiques, furniture, carpets and lights with all of them being made from only the most exquisite of materials money can buy.
