Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This palace is huge, and it is filled with opulent furniture, ceiling paintings, statues, furniture, dishes, and medival armory. It's a bit of a hassle getting in, as other people have written, but once inside you will be amazed!

Crowded with Madrilenos and tourists alike, the Gran Via is a must to experience. It is more crowded than a Manhattan thoroughfare, and that's saying a lot. It's great for people-watching and a bit of shopping if you're int that kind of thing.

I saw so many mixed reviews about the Mercado in Madrid. It is touristy. It is crowded. But we had an absolutely wonderful time. We loved looking at all the different types of foods, cuisines, treats, wines, and more. We went back for late afternoon tapas. We had a bottle of wine and some of the better Iberian ham, Jamón ibérico de bellota (acorn fed) and yes, it was pricey, but it was so good! The Mercado has a fun and lively atmosphere and lots of choices. Go with the flow and enjoy!

Aside from the Royal Palace, this is probably one of the architectural highlights of Madrid, and the most noteworthy religious monument. From the outside is more plain-looking than the inside, which is spacious under its huge dome and covered in frescoes and gilding. You can see it quickly or wander around and appreciate the details. It's also a little off the main tourist trail, so it was generally peaceful inside.

The only inconvenience were the opening times, which at the time did not match anything I read online or in a guidebook. when we were there it was open in the morning but closed in the early or mid afternoon. It may have been because it was August (the local holiday season), but generally it seems like a good idea to check the times at the site itself (or call ahead).

The cathedral is beautiful, it's different from the ones I have been to before. I especially loved the ceiling. The comission was free. There were A LOT of tourists.

The Plaza de Oriente is a square located across from the Royal Palace. It is rectangular in shape and monumental in character and it was designed by Narciso Pascual y Colomer. The square was opened in 1844. In the same year the equestrian statue of Felipe IV was erected. The gardens were planned by Jose Bonaparte, who wanted the gardens to highlight the Palace and the Royal Theater. One of the most beautiful squares in Madrid.

Small but good gardens located to the side of the Royal Palace enroute to the Plaza de Espana and the Temple of Debod. There are some small fountains and some nice paths. Well worth a 30 minute visit.

The theatre is located in front of the Royal Palace. It looks very grand and majestic from the outside. Was not able to enter but managed to take some nice photos

I just popped in to see the crypt and for a minimal donation of your choice, not bad to spend 15 minutes or so. I took a wander, some photos. Not crowded.

This is a park next to the Cathedral of Almudena. It is a good place to go for a run, have a picnic, or rest. It is a historical place in Madrid..In 1100s the Arabs set up a camp. In the 19th century it used to be a playground for the children of the royal family..

Definitely a fun addition to any trip to Madrid! Took a bit to find the door(especially if you are following Google Maps; go right not left at the end), and when we found it they were closed till later. Came back and made my order.

Been wanting to do this for years and finally to made it. The cookies were pretty good as well.

Both the palace and church in the same block. It is worth doing both but maybe do them on different days and explore the area around it. There are stairs to climb but worth the view. Wish more of the descriptions were also in English.

This version in Spanish has its unique twist with outstanding actors and scenery. Disney quality. Small theatre so you have no bad seats. Comfortable and very great acoustics.
