What travellers are saying
- Navigator067Reading4 contributionsYou can spend a whole day on the Rock.
We took the cable car up and walked down...sounds easy but it's really not.
I would recommend one of the many taxis that take you up show you around and bring you down.
Avoid days when the cruise ships come in.
Very hot but great views.
If your a hiker you'll love it.
Watch out for the monkeys...they are not tame. They have signs everywhere saying do not touch or feed but they are stupid people everywhere!
Dolphin safari was great and would recommend it.Written 5 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - PlinerBluffton, SC24 contributionsWe opted for the small van trip that included the multiple stops on Gibraltar (highly recommend). The vans were in the middle of the city center.
St. Michael's Cave was magnificent. I thought the light show would be silly but it was beautiful and highlighted the natural formations and was a showcase to remember.Written 3 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I stopped here while walking down from the top of the Rock, and it was much more than expected.
It's a great way of getting a bit of an introduction to the last 300 years of history for Gibraltar, as the tunnels were intimately involved in that history. Plus, it's an adventure to explore the tunnels and use your imagination to conjure up what it would have been like to be in them at different times over the past 250 years. The displays help with that.
There are also some good views over the Mediterranean sea and some parts of Gibraltar and Spain.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - eVe 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬Singapore, Singapore1,489 contributionsWe alighted at Garrison Gym stop by Bus No. 2 and walked uphill for about 20 minutes to reach the trail head of the Mediterranean Steps.
It's all rocky stairs and easy hike for those who are fit. We reached O'Hara Battery, the highest point at 419m, in one hour. Thereafter, you can walk to the various attractions such as St. Michael's Cave, Skywalk etc.
The adult entrance fee is £19 without cable car ride.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a cafe and a stadium. A majestic lighthouse would come into view.
Walk along the waterfront and try seeing Morocco on a clear day. Spend half a day chilling out there would be more than enough.Written 10 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Cactus section was my favorite, numerous varieties, sizes shapes and textures.
Park benches throughout and free toilets.Written 12 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - eVe 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬Singapore, Singapore1,489 contributionsWe stayed 3 nights in Royal Ocean Plaza which is located in Ocean Village. The location is excellent, 15 minutes walk from the frontier. It is also closed to Casemate Square with many shops and restaurants.
The room is fully furnished and an excellent choice for 3 of us. We liked it that it comes with a washer and dryer. Security is good with a pass code needed to get into the building.
You would have a front seat view to the Rock of Gibraltar from the balcony.
Across the apartment is the bus terminal and there are 2 supermarkets - Eroski is located close to the frontier and Morrison is about 15 minutes walk from the apartment.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - laczkozsuDebrecen, Hungary2,431 contributionsWe came here from Spain, so the traffic on the left was strange. Even walking down the main street, we felt like we were in Britain: English street names, the red double decker buses, the traditional red phone boxes and post boxes (Royal Mail), the black bins, the shop signs. A photo of Admiral Nelson's statue is a must, as is a picture of the Guinness beer drinkers on the terrace of the Lord Nelson Pub. Unfortunately, we had little time and had to hurry.Written 30 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ella MMelbourne, Australia15 contributionsThe cable car was a good experience to get up the rock. It was about a 5 minute ride and it wasn’t crowded in the car. The only thing that could be a 5/5 is some windows to let fresh air in as there only was on one end at the back.Written 5 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul J10 contributionsThe museum houses some of the artefacts found at the Gorhams UNESCO cave complex at Europa Advance Road. There are also the Moorish baths that have been restored.
The history of Gibraltar back to Neanderthal man is superbly documented in this museum.Written 1 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - geo3Calgary, Canada2,144 contributionsThis is a different experience than the Great Siege Tunnels, but it is also included in the price for the Nature Reserve. If you are walking down from the top of the Rock, as I was, this is basically right on the pathway down, and is a good second stop after stopping at the Great Siege Tunnels, which are higher up.
These tunnels are on a much grander scale than the Great Siege tunnels, and the technology behind them is amazing, as most of them were drilled out in a short time during WWII, for use as dormitories, offices, even hospitals and schools, all bomb-proof. As a Canadian, I was interested to find out that much of the work was done by Canadian hard rock miners, who were used to dealing with the machinery needed to bore these giant tunnels through hard rock such as the limestone of Gibraltar.
You'll even pass through an area of faulting - interesting from a geological point of view to see what a fault plane looks like up close. There is also a nice view over the Mediterranean sea from an observation balcony (but watch your head when you go through the tunnel to this viewpoint! It's probably the reason that they issue hardhats to you when you start the tour).
More could be done here, I think, in terms of displays of information, but even as it is, it is very interesting.Written 31 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
