Maybe it’s the sheer understatedness of this place, but it’s become a highlight of our trip.

You definitely need a car to get here, as the parking is a rest stop on a motorway. After the wooden walkway and turning style gate, don’t expect fancy signs or official pathways.

Go wearing practical shoes (trainers or walking shoes very much advised) and expect to be amazed and awed at the marvel of 2000+ year old engineering.

Larger than I expected and with the Balearic sea as a back drop. Well preserved and respected in recent times. Good information and worth a visit to soak up the history. Euro 3.30 to go down to the main area

We were only in Tarragona for a short time and didn't have enough time to tour the Basilica when it was open. But the next day, on our way out of town, we stopped by before it was open. I'm sure if we'd have seen it when it was open it would have been very impressive, but we were just as happy seeing just the outside of it while there weren't any others around. We were there early - around 9am so the streets were super quiet and it was lovely just walking around.

A great celebration of a Catalan custom. Fab to stand next to and though its a monument it 'feels' alive.

A wonderful view out over the Mediterranean at the end of a wonderful street. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby and little or no tourist traps. Obviously very popular with the locals. Some great ice cream shops nearby too.

Beautiful area, with narrow cobbled streets, very nice old buildings and ruins. Definitely a must visit in Tarragona.

My teenage son and I decided to stand in the line for the Circa Roma after seeing the Roman amphitheater on a hot afternoon. After the very inefficient ticketing line, we were wondering about our choice. We were so glad we did it! The site is surprisingly expansive and beautiful -- both the serpentine caverns underneath the city, to the soaring views from the top of the tower.. For me, the most interesting piece was getting an understanding of what incredible city planners the Romans were You get a real sense of what a masterpiece this ancient city was and the investment in labor that was put into its creation. Also, fascinating to see how much of the antiquities have been completely built over through the centuries.

What a great market. Fish, meat, veg and baked goods. Loads of choice. Loads to try and plenty of little bars to sit at and have a bite to eat. We were in almost daily

We very much enjoyed our stroll down and then back up the Ramblas Nova, a wide avenue lined with shops and cafes. Our preferred route was to stay on the centre island in the middle of the avenue.

Don't be misled by the name (like we were!) there are no murals here! Instead you get magnificent Roman and Medieval walls and gates. An easy, though uphill, walk and some signs and info boards. The site has the oldest Roman gateway outside Italy. Well worth a visit and at the end you end up in the Old Town by the cathedral.

El Serrallo is a nice fishing area in Tarragon and it’s to the right of the port. Nice feel to it and worth a visit and walk around.

Even in November, seems a great place for taking sun and bathing (if you dare). Anyway, walking along the sea and watching the surfers is very enjoyable.

Bottom of a small square is illuminated with these colourfully painted buildings. Looks both fun and bright creating a great back drop to the area

Very good beach located on the north eastern edge of Tarragona. Well worth visiting if you are looking for a less popular beach.

This beach is a pleasant enough beach in Tarragona. Short walk from the rail station/town centre. Partly overlooked by amphitheater.

The beach itself was clean and cared for. It was low season and all the facilities plus the catering outlet were closed. There were showers available to rinse the salt water/sand off after a swim.

Depending which part of the beach you are on the background cityscape isn't the best, but it's nice enough. Didn't notice all the graffiti mentioned by previous reviewers.
