Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fascinating look at the ancient Roman foundations of the city: a dyer's shop, a cleaner, a factory for fish sauce. You can see the evolution to Christianity and the Muslim influence. Lots of great exhibits, the majority in English.

Housed in the tremendous Palau de Mar from the 1890s it gives a sweeping fascinating history of the eventful region.

Beginning in the far distant Neolithic era with cave paintings and stone and bone tools, it progresses through the millennia to the contemporary.

With artefacts, models, dioramas and copious legends, an absorbing journey through the civilisations takes place.

The ebb and flow of economic wealth is covered. From empires across the sea to industrialisation and the key powerhouse of textiles in more recent centuries, all is conveyed engagingly.

Origins of the Catalonian Coat of Arms are speculated upon. One such concerns Guifre el Pelos dating from the 16th century. It goes that the French King dipped his fingers in Guifre’s blood and moved his fingers down the golden shield, thus creating four bars.

Twentieth century turbulence and conflicts are shown. Through the terrible years of the Civil War and subsequent repression till the mid 1970s.

The museum is not very big, but it is quite interesting. It's worth taking the time to visit. Most exhibits are from the late dynasties. The ticket is cheap.

Very few signs are in English but you can use the QR codes dotted around the museum to listen to an audioguide in several languages, which is needed if you want to enjoy everything on display. The first exhibition was about funerary practices and it was really interesting to see the recreations of tombs and crypts. Then it moved onto archaeological finds specific to Catalonia which gave a great insight into the civilisations that came before the Spanish rule. There was also a temporary exhibit but nothing was in English and there were no audioguide QR codes. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but the Barcelona card only gave a discount and I don't think it was worth the price paid

Avant-garde comics by young women was one of the temporary exhibitions underway. Nine authors feature, including Roberta Vázquez, Bàrbara Alca and Nadia Hafid.

They deal through the medium of comics with subjects and themes particularly affecting young people such as economic uncertainty and their relationship with technology.

All in an impressive building, part of which constitutes a mighty former alms house.

This was located very close to our hotel, so we stopped in to check it out. Although there is certainly an impressive array of perfumes and cosmetics inside, they are all things that are for sale...more like a store than a museum.

When passing were delighted to see there was a free concert at 6pm. Returned for it, in a fabulous Gothic building.

It was constructed in the 16th century by Bartomeu Roig for the Tertiary Sisters of the Dominicans and is a fabulous legacy to be still extant, and in use.

A string quartet performed a number of compositions, modern and atonal in form. While by no means a favourite music, it was atmospheric in the grand vaulted space.
