Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the two neighbourhoods bordering La Rambla is the famous Gothic Quarter. On the other side of this street is the other el Ravel. This neighbourhood isn’t quite as old as it’s neighbour nor as famous but still worth a look. We heard about it from one of the staff at our hotel, a Filipina like my wife. It made sense to take a morning and stroll through it, especially as we had planned to visit the nearby Mercat de Sant Antoni.

While not as old as the Gothic Quarter there are still several narrow streets to wander about listening to the sounds, sights and smells of the area. In addition, parts of the area like Ronda de Paul and Ronda de Sant Antoni resemble the nearby L’Eixample District with its wide tree lined boulevards and stately buildings with their distinctive wrought iron balconies.

It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Barcelona. Today it is home to about 50,000 people, many born elsewhere. It has always been a neighbourhood of immigrants. Originally it was informally known as Barrio Chino or Chinatown. Now there are South Asians, South Americans, Filipinos and Eastern Europeans living here, many of whom work in the shops and restaurants of the neighbouring more touristy areas. My wife even found several Filipino business that cater to the 5,000 or so countrymen of hers that work and live in Barcelona.

While the Gothic Quarter to the north is known as a tourist attraction, el Ravel has had another reputation. During the last century it was best known for its nightlife and clubs including many of an adult nature. With this came prostitution and crime. While many of these clubs have long since gone sadly the crime remains.

Most travel sites post numerous warnings about going into this neighbourhood especially at night. This is probably true but I found it perfectly safe during the day if using normal precautions. In fact, I would say the absence of large numbers of tourists made it a bit safer as that meant fewer pickpockets and other similar types around due to a lack of potential victims.

The lack of tourists also means that prices here are a bit cheaper. The shops and cafes cater more to the residents than visitors and this is reflected in their costs. While there is no great selection of souvenirs, other items are readily available and there are worse places to grab a coffee or lunch at. The el Ravel district is probably not for everyone, but then that is one of the charms of Barcelona, there is always something for every taste.

Veronica and Elena were amazing!!! My massage (by Veronica) was out of this world, may be the best massage I have ever had and I have tried plenty!! My sore muscles from walking around town were soothed, and even my mind was totally relaxed by the end of the 50 min massage. My husband (Elena was his masseuse) said the same thing about his experience. Our only regret is not booking a second session during our short stay. Will definitely plan ahead and factor that in when we visit Barcelona next!

We selected the Ultimate wine tasting and were not disappointed. From the initial red vermouth, produced to a secret recipe, through a Cava to three red wines, we were presented a liquid taste of Spain so different from that available in the UK. The three reds were all amazing, but the "venus" was fantastic so too the Rioja. This is not a "swill and spit" tasting but one to be savoured with the bread chees ham and olives provided. We'll be back the next time we visit Barcelona.

It was so neat to see the 150 oven they use to roast the nuts. The store was quaint and the people were nice. There are so many option for your tastebuds. But, here's a tip - DO NOT buy only one box of Kodols to take back to the U.S.! Because you will eat them all and want more and they don't ship to the U.S.!! So sad. Anyone going to Barcelona anytime soon want to pick up a few boxes for me? Haha

We wanted to do a wine tasting at a local place and came across Vivinos. It took us a while to find it, and when we got there we found out that we missed the 6pm wine tasting. We thought we would just taste a few wines on our own by ordering by the glass. We were very fortunate that Freya was there. She made several recommendations of wine and tapas for us. She had a lot of knowledge about the wines and was happy to share her time with us. Thank you for making our visit to the wine bar memorable. I would highly recommend this off the beaten path wine bar!

I was nearing the end of my trip to Barcelona and had a last minute request by my daughter for a doll. I contacted the proprietor and she rescued me from my predicament. Don't miss this one of a kind experience and these fabulous creations. Dolls, homemade with love! Fantastic experience. Customer service far exceeded any expectation. The attention to detail and pride in workmanship were amazing! My daughter loves it!!!

I stumbled upon here with my boyfriend and we were very well informed on the chocolate by two of the workers, who made us feel very accommodated for. It was great seeing the truffles being made in store too. We decided to get churros after hearing they were dairy free (when ordered with dark chocolate) and were so impressed. The staff were lovely and we’d both recommend this place to anyone looking for a sweet bite to eat

Went here twice during my recent trip to Barcelona ... I was the only tourist at the bar both times. Great selection of craft beers on tap and in bottles. They had Cantillion Kriek on tap when I was there, and I was drinking that non-stop. They also have a bottleshop around the corner, and I picked up a bottle of Cantillion Kriek to bring back home with me. Definitely a place to try if you're in Barcelona, and the neighborhood as a local feel to it.

Sandals are made in their factory here in Spain. Saleswomen was very helpful in helping me choose sandals for my specific size feet. I bought two pair to wear this summer.
Also just a great area of Barcelona to window shop. Mostly filled with tourist type shops but very reasonably priced stuff.

We didn’t expect this shop to be so good when we entered there. Authentic candy maybe by profession artisans with passion. Great way to make gifts to family or friends when coming back home.

This place was a paradize. if you are a lover of fine ceramic artwork, then ART Escudellers is a place you can't miss. I wanted to buy each and every peace. Highly recommended place to visit when in Barcelona. Any peace you get from there will make your Spanish memories live until your next visit.
