A very photogenic castle located on the water. Around there are buildings with a restaurant and a beer garden.
I recommend a walk in the surrounding park.

A lot of industrial exhibtis from Chemnitz' industrial past ("The German Manchester") are shown, most prominent the machines that were used to produce different kinds of textiles. Many of the old machines do still work and are shown in action from time to time. All in all this is a really interesting place to visit and certainly something you shouldn't miss when in Chemnitz.

The museum includes nice art collection from modern and classic artists and painters. I had a chance to see Bauhaus textile and graphic arts exhibition.
If you miss being surrounded by art in Chemnitz, this is a nice place to be in.

P.s. Also, something nice not connected with art, you can have a coffee in a nice atmosphere in a cafe on the ground floor.

My visit here took 2 days to complete. as I wandered the 3 Floors taking in everything I could. from the beginning of civilisation on the first floor through the ages till reaching on day 2 the fantastic new display or works o fart from pots to jewellery
An amazing place to visit with staff that were helpful even when a machine was not available to interpret for me. they found me a book explaining all. The café inside is a must visit too with wonderful cakes and pastries along with really good coffee. I came across a group of schoolchildren visiting that were there about 30 minutes. my goodness it took me 2 days and it was well worth it

While Chemnitz is a rather uninspiring place, the museum is worth the trip. Excellent exhibits especially of German expressionists with large collection of Jawlensky and Otto Dix. Very nice building and set up of the exhibits.

Not so big but with a lot of fun for children. They can touch and see a lot of plants in glasshouse. Close to it there is also place where they can play.

A place fill of history for anyone interested in railways. Located in the old steam depot at Chemnitz and associated yard there are numerous steam, diesel and electric locomotives in the 2 half roundhouses as well as coach and wagon rolling stock. There is also a small narrow gauge railway on site too. The place is fascinating and the care and attention that the working locomotives get in a working depot is clear to see. Staff on the site were extremely helpful and what was pleasing to note was that complete access to the site was possible without all the H&S limitations found in similar British museums. A perfect way to spend 3 or so hours looking at everything on site

I just loved the Villa Esche! We came along with a friend and felt very welcome - though no guided tours were on plan, two nice ladies were ready to tell us about the history, the character and the rooms of the villa.
The villa itself is a very charming example of Henry van de Velde's work on German territory - and a beautiful one, as it keeps a very specific personality, without being fussy.

I travel once a year to Germany with many students on a student exchange programme. One of the cities they love the most is Chemnitz, and specially its City Hall. There is a guide which is dressed up as in the old times and he gives the most amazing guided tours. i highly recommend you to go for it. You get also to see the city from above.

The building indeed is beautiful, but there isn't always a good event to attend to. For a small town it does give a the feeling you're in a special place. But that's all. Don't raise your expectations.

This (private) museum has a great variety of old motorcycles and cars. Some of them (i .a. a car driven by a wood gasifier) are rarely to be seen elsewhere.

This is just a large square, you can find the theater, opera, art museum and Petrikirche here. Don't expect anything spectacular.
