Whenever you visit Goettingen you will see small decorated carts, flowers and happy people around the Gänseliesel Brunnen and you think what is that?
It is tradition over decades that a person who got a PHD, doctor title, to bring the Gänseliesel flowers and kiss it. Enjoy.

Visiting Göttingen you should not miss this botanical garden. If you want you can spend a whole day there. For foor or a drink, go to the garden café.

From the outside it’s not picturesque attractive old city hall which was built in 1270 and used as the merchant’s guild hall and yet it is worth taking several steps up order to see this building from the inside - one can find the beautiful 19 th century interior decoration: the frescoes which depict the coats of arms of the Hanseatic cities. Magic of strength to be experienced while watching the depictions on the walls.

The Bismarck Tower is a prominent building in the Goettinger forest which is located near the center of Goettingen. It is a special place up on the hill.Very quiet, and windy on a winter day. There are numerous pathways through the forest which lead to the tower. It is also marked, and good to find. The tower is open from April to September,at the weekend.

One of the most unusual churches I have visited. There are some baroque elements to be found in this very Lutheran Church.

One of the towers of this church was formerly used as an observation tower, where a guard sat, notifying citizens of an approaching enemy or a fire. Unfortunately it was closed for a visit we were there.

The most important value of the church is a carved three-door altar, created in 1402 by an unknown master.

One activity in Göttingen you don’t want to miss out on. Great any time of the year with the changing scenery.

Giant ship play structure is a hit with the kiddos.

Great for exercise or just meeting up with friends and walking the dogs.

The city wall is a historical pathway(approx. 250 years old) around the center of Goettingen. It is not only a good way to walk, but also to discover old buildings, beautiful properties and, tree's.You get a good overview from the city. From there, you are able to enter the center through various streets, and you can also reach the botanical garden, churches, historical buildings, etc.
It is definitely a special place.

A similar must see attraction as the neighboring statue of Gaenseliesel but Professor Lichtenberg is much easier accessible ;-)

We have visited this swimming pool quite often, as it is the only bigger one in Göttingen. And during winter time, it is simply too cold. Both outside and inside the pools. Our kids lips turn blue, my wife freezes - and that’s just no fun. :-(

Found this gem in the Nautibar as previously noted. 6 different brews when I was there and sampled a couple before settling on a nice Vienna Lager.

Friday’s and Saturday’s this place is great to sit and enjoy a coffee and listen to the street musicians. Or it’s a great spot for a meeting point in the city along the main fare.

When you walk from the trainstation towards the city centre you will find a series of steles containing a scale model of our solar system (where both size and distance are on a correct scale). For each object some statistics and facts are presented on the stele. Such a visual and physical representation really brings home how enormously empty the universe is, and how rapidly distances increase: where the first planets are on the same block as the sun, it quickly becomes entire streets before encountering the next one.
