Problem 1: Hard to find
Arrived at the entrance of Strandbad Wannsee. Despite the huge advertisement at a gate, it was unclear where to go. (Left through the forest along the fence, then right and downhill.)
Suggestion: but up more signs.
Problem 2: Service level
I wanted to rent a windsurf board. I windsurf for multiple years, but never did a "windsurf license" (not required by law, no one asks for it, etc. etc.)
Apparently they require a windsurf license to rent a windsurf board due to "insurance reasons". If that's their policy, ok, I know, windsurfing equipment is expensive.
However, I go there and want to spend money to rent a board, their job is to give me options and tell me, what's possible. For example, someone does a "check ride" with me. Not possible, no one was there or had time. Paying another few euros for insurance or signing something that I am liable for damages. Not offered.
Suggestion: offer check rides or a rental insurance - and - state on your web site that this is required.
... I ended up renting a SUP board. Positive: there was a good selection of SUP boards, inflatables and hard boards.
Problems 3.1 and 3.2:
The paddle was missing a screw and became loose. Therefore I needed to go back. I would expect them to maintain the equipment better.
The paddle is simple aluminum. Should be carbon these days even for rental.
And finally there is a contradiction: In the wind surfing class that was going on in parallel they left their sails clew-first at the beach. That should be the very first thing that you learn: always mast-first in order not to put yourself or others in danger and not damage the equipment. However, you can't rent without a license. I wonder, what their insurance says, if the sail hits me when it's picked up by the wind...
- broad selection of equipment: SUP boards, windsurfing, sailboats, etc.
- prices market-average
- infrastructure: changing rooms, places in the shade, cooled drinks
Final thought: I mentioned the above right on site to some employees. Being service-oriented the reply should be "thank you for your feedback, we will work on it". This was not the case, the reply were excuses and statements why they would be right.
