Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So glad it wasn't destroyed by previous rulers! A great sight to see from a distance. Well frequented by all.

After visiting Auschwitz earlier this year it was fitting I paid my respect here in Berlin. Shame it was ruined by three drunken Irish tourists!

This is a very historical column in central Berlin, and it is quite impressive. I highly recommend a visit.

If you have visited the Reichstag dome, then this memorial is well worth seeking out; it’s just a few minutes away on foot. The Roma and Sinti peoples were victims of the Holocaust who perhaps tend to be forgotten in the face of such massive suffering amongst the Jewish community of Europe. However, it is believed that up to half a million Roma and Sinti people were persecuted and murdered under Nazi rule, so this memorial, put up in October 2012, Is a fitting monument to their suffering. The simplicity of the round water basin and the tranquillity of the enclosure in which it sits is all that is needed for quiet reflection.

This is a nice bronze in a pretty setting. There are some nicely restored and reconstructed buildings in the area and plenty of bars/restaurants. The statue could really do with some underlighting to make it more visible and dramatic. It's a few minutes walk from the cathedral and Museum Island.

The Plötzensee Memorial Centre remembers the thousands of people Hitler had killed. It is a stark and awful reminder of a dark time in history - a very somber place.

This is a beautiful monument of Schiller, located in the center of Gendarmenmarkt, in front of the concert hall.

This memorial is across the road from the Jewish memorial in the park. The memorial is in a similar block to the ones built for the Jewish memorial but one single block and higher. There is a video installation playing inside it. Only one person at a time is able to see the presentation which is awkward, leaving you feeling that you have to rush to allow other people through. It's as though homosexuality is still being made difficult to see ....

The entrances, the Lion Gate on Hardenbergplatz and the Chinese-style Elephant Gate on Budapester Straße, are striking works of art from around 1900.

Bismarck Memorial is a memorial statue commemorating Prince Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of the German Empire.

Otto von Bismarck stands over a polished granite pedestal, depicted in the uniform in which he used to appear in the old Reichstag.
He stands above 4 statues symbolizing the heroization of Bismarck:

    1-Atlas carrying the globe showing
    Germany's world power status.

2- Siegfried, forging the imperial sword to show Germany's strong industrial, military might and Bismarck's successful battles against the enemies of the Reich.

    3-Germania, allegory of state authority,
shapes the crown and scepter, symbolizing the suppression of discord and rebellion. It is meant to express the invincible power of Bismarck.

4-Sibylle, allegory of the state wisdom, riding on the back of a sphinx. She is reading the book of history as a symbol of Bismarck's spiritual significance.

My wife and I visited Schonholzer Heidi during a visit to Berlin last summer. We visited whilst walking the Mauerweg as this is a part of Berlin that is unfamiliar to us.
Like most Soviet Memorials is it big and bold but also extremely impressive.
As you walk round you get the feel for the number of Russian soldier who lost their lives in the Battle for Berlin.
What you begin to realise is that in war there are no actual winners or losers but just thousands of families who mourn for loved ones, often lost on distant lands.

This monument stands in tribute to not one, but three great German composers. The monument is a three sided column, each side showing a half relief sculpture of Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart. The column is topped with a golden sculpture of three infants holding aloft a laurel wreath.

Adolph Diesterweg (1790–1866) was a German educator, and progressive liberal politician, who campaigned for the secularization of schools. He is said to be one of the most important reformers of pedagogy.

This bronze sculpture by German sculptor Robert Metzkes can be found next to James Simon Park. The sculpture unveiled in 1990 consists of a bust on a table, and two standing students next to it.

Opposite the Kino International, you will see the Moskau Cafe. With a Sputnik on the roof. Although it was closed, yet the outside is interesting enough.
