Like Paris has its Arc de Triomphe, the Siegestor was founded in Munich in the 19th century as a triumphal arch in honor of the Bavarian army; although the design was based on the Arch of Constantine in Rome.
After the Second World War the arc was transformed into a symbol of peace.
On top of the arch is an allegorical image that personifies the state of Bavaria.
If you don't have much time in Munich, you can already see the monument from the Odeonsplatz.
