What travellers are saying
- Cynthia FPasadena, CA6 contributionsWe had a wonderful, satisfying day hiking the trails inside Killarney National Park, exploring the beautiful gardens full of rhododendron trees in May, and viewing the Muckross House and Gardens. Mid-day we had lunch outside at the restaurant within the park. The lakes are beautiful and visible from the park trails. We saw both red deer and the Japanese sika deer in small herds in meadows off the hiking trails. We were a group of three couples in our 60's and 70's with different levels of hiking needs and the park accommodated all of us, as we chose different paths and met up again easily later on.Written 16 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Andre HCape Town, South Africa353 contributionsWe were initially going to walk , parked by the restaurant , but mother nature had other ideas ,it started raining.
Took the car & were warned about the narrow roads but not about the horse karts that seemed to think they owned the road.
After a few tight turns we got to the 1st bridge , fortunately it stopped raining so we were able to get out & walk & enjoy the Gap , the waterfall in the mountains & just the natural beauty with a few sheep to add to the real country feel.
The scenery was amazing & as mentioned by other Travellers a must do as part of the Ring of Kerry or a separate trip as we did to cut the Ring of Kerry trip down. We did it on our way back from Tralee , 32km .
If possible , walk/cycle/horse kart or catch the boat & take it from there.Written 10 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - IzzyKazBallivor, Ireland4 contributionsWe didn't realise how big this place was so did arrived until 1pm, however we should have definitely gone earlier morning as there is so much to do and see.
The house was nice, however there weren't much by way of people telling you much about it, it was self guided and the leaflet had only a small amount of information. The lady in the kitchen nearer the end of the tour was lovely though and provided some information.
We didn't get to see the fill gardens just a small rock garden near the restaurant. We skipped the restaurant as there was a fairly large queue and no seating free so I would definitely suggest brining a picnic.
When we first arrive at the house entrance there were some Januting car drivers right there. One approached us to ask if we want to go up to the waterfall, we initially stated we might later, he asked again and I advised we had no cash to which he offered to take us to the Abbey that had an atm or we could use Revolut. So we reluctantly agreed. While the man was pleasant and we had thought about going on one anyway it did take our time away from the farm which was our main reason to visit. Also being put on the spot we forgot to confirm the price beforehand, it turned out to be €60 for a short journey up to the waterfall and back the same way. It was myself, my mother and young daughter and on reflection I feel this was a little expensive, the journey while the views were pretty was brief and we actually felt a bit sorry for the horse also as she seemed tired and hot.
The last visit was to the farm and it did not disappoint!! We just wish we had more time there.
We will return again for the farm and gardens and walking to see the views, armed with a picnic and the ability to decline the jaunting car drivers perseverance for custom 🙃Written 15 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Andre HCape Town, South Africa353 contributionsWe were very fortunate that after a few days of rain prior to our visit the falls were in full flow & a site to behold.
There are a couple of ways to get to the falls , we took the long way & descended from the top parking area along a very muddy slope due to the rain. There is parking must closer to the bottom which we discovered afterwards. Parking is plentiful & free , so is the waterfall .
It got quite busy but we all had our opportunity to get our moment of glory with the waterfall in the back. The woods make a wonderful backdropWritten 10 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Andre HCape Town, South Africa353 contributionsRoss Castle is fairly small but the setting on the lake makes up for that. There are better castles in Ireland but the Castle is close to a few other attractions in Killarney National Gardens so worth visiting.
There are boat trips on the lake from right in front of Ross Castle , free parking , a few stalls & foodWritten 10 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Donny WMaggie Valley, NC485 contributionsBe sure to get out of your vehicle and walk the path. There are amazing views and photo ops. It is an easy walk, and you will not be disappointed.Written 13 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- AudreyB971Western Ireland, Ireland97 contributionsOne would need boots for safety and warm clothes to be prepared for the Irish weather. We had hailstones and sunshine as we climbed.
