Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As a child, 50 odd years ago, always tried this out. You learn the main sites in the area. Don't think the binoculars work. Pity

Monday afternoon on the 28th August we walked along the East Pier in Dun Laoghaire.

This circular granite Memorial is mounted on the pier's stone wall nearby the East Pier Bandstand.

It pays tribute to the vast numbers that left Ireland after World War II, from the Carlisle Pier, never to return to their homeland. They are often referred to as the "Forgotten Irish ", this plaque pays tribute to their contribution and loss.

The Plaque was unveiled on the 15th May 2012. The inscription, coloured in black paint, is beginning to fade due wear, tear and the effect of the climatic elements.

Although a simple Memorial, it contributes to making the East Pier an interesting place to walk along.

Located in the grounds of the LexIcon Library and Cultural Centre, is a statue with Jesus on the cross, the sculpture, is completely different to any form, of christ on a cross it is definitely thought provoking, depicting three aspects of Christ’s life desolation, consolation and triumph.

It’s based on the seafront as you head from Dunlaoghaire towards Sandycove. It’s ok, not great. But I like when they try different things.

Monday 28th August and we walked the East Pier in Dun Laoghaire, where this memorial is located roughly halfway along the Pier, embedded in the wall.

The memorial is a tribute to the memory and the bravery of Captain John McNeill Boyd and five members his crew.

They perished attempting to rescue others at sea during a ferocious storm on the 9th February 1861. The memorial was erected close to where the tragedy occurred.

The stone Obelisk stands on a hefty stone pedestal. Around the base of the obelisk there is a rope sculpted around it a reminder of the naval and maritime connection.

It all stands as an affirmation that man cannot control the sea regardless of their efforts to do so.

On the front of the base there is a stone plaque inset into the base. On the plaque is Captain Boyd's name and the names of five crew members that also perished on board HMS Ajax.
