It's not huge so you can see it all in about 30-60 min depending on how much time you spend reading the displays about the history, which we found to be very interesting. Yes it’s small, yes they don’t have any track to run a train on and yes they have no parking but it’s still worth a visit.

An Port is reached via a one lane road, mostly in good condition, about 25 mins from Glencolumbkille. It's one of the most deserted places in the West. We walked thru a field to see the abandoned village on the right. However, the track on the left is spectacular and worth a walk. Up on the cliff, you can see across to the cliffs, some of which have fallen into the sea, and there's an inaccessible cliff island. All very beautiful on a sunny day, or magical in the rain. The boat trip is short - 8 mins and the island is very peaceful with lovely walks.
We spent around 2.5hrs on the island including a stop at the cafe/shed for ice creams and drinks and had a lovely chat with the guy who runs it.
Check FB for information as there is no ticket office or timetable at the pier - it’s €15 each for the boat and cash only at the shop on the island and parking at the pier is free.
