Portsalon Golf Club is usually rated outside of the top 20 courses in Ireland, but it remains in my top 5. I have played there 5 times since my first trip to Ireland in 2006, and brought a number of friends afterwards to share in the experience. All of them really liked Portsalon.

The setting for the course on Ballymastoker Bay is particularly beautiful and a round at Portsalon is usually a peaceful, soul enriching experience. The first several holes that follow the coastline are spectacular. As you move inland, the feeling of the course changes but almost all the holes are unique and interesting to play. The double greens are just icing on the cake.

This is a great golf area with three good to great courses nearby at Rosapenna and several others within a couple hours drive. Check out The Olde Glen Bar and Restaurant nearby for the best food in Ireland.

Don't leave Portsalon off your itinerary and don't forget the northwest of Ireland when you think about coming to the Emerald Isle to play.

Beautiful and fantastic golf course. It is our 31st year playing Murvagh and it is spectacular.
The staff are all so helpful and welcoming, the course is spectacular and the bar is friendly.

We played the Old Links twice and Glashedy and loved every minute of it. Both courses are in fantastic condition and I doubt I will ever find a better links design than Glashedy (and I have played most of them in Ireland). Top marks to all staff at Ballyliffin GC, you are a credit to the Club.

Honestly we have had some of the best food and drinks this week here, certainly the best Sunday roast I've ever had! 🥰

We arrived on Friday for a cold pint of the black stuff, a great pint served! We were told they had a Spanish Tapas menu with pairing Sangria on just for this weekend and we knew we couldn't miss that experience. From the description and recommendations of the menu from our server to the balance of each dish, it was amazing! The sangria packed a punch too 🍷, I couldn't get enough of this!

Sunday lunch is a must 😍, the quality of food was second to none and is worth the cost of 3 courses for €41. The service and atmosphere was great, nice to see the place buzzing. We had all 3 courses, shock! I had the beef and my partner had the pork belly, both bursting with flavour and cooked perfectly. The lemon meringue was delicious 🍋 it would be my recommended dessert.

Love everything about this place and look forward to our next trip back to Portnoo
    💚💛
.. ps may have also sampled the lunch menu too. 👀😍

If you love playing link courses, then this resort will cater to your needs.
Each course is different in nature, and each will test every level of golfer.
If you stray off the fairways be prepared to take extra golf balls, the same can be said if you have a bad day with your driver,as some of the carry to clear the marne grass and rough in front of some of the tee boxes is at least 100 yards plus.

Played an open here start of June. Really enjoyable course. The new holes are good especially the new par 4 over the water. Friendly staff , friendly members and one of the best views for a pint afterwards. Will definitely return.

St Patrick's links is a real test of golf . Lovely links course with some really tough holes particularly in wind. No clubhouse (yet) unfortunately and no buggies. They do have electric trolleys for rent so make sure to book them early. Fantastic location and very scenic.

Well looked after course, some challenging holes at the back nine but overall a great links. Staff in the shop are very accommodating, didnt get a chance to try the bar upstairs due to time restraints but some other golfers spoke favourably about it. A great start to the day before going to Ballyshannon for the Rory G festival.

Hope to return again next month for another round!

I played two rounds of golf here during a holiday to Donegal. I had a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is quite forgiving in that it doesn't have a lot of bunkers, but there is out of bounds all along the front nine and much of the back nine. The views around the turn are just lovely. The greens were excellent and a real credit to the staff. Loved it.

We had a lot of fun at this quirky little course. It’s interesting to play with many different challenges. Greens were ok given that it’s still early in the season and we were impressed with the attention to detail in terms of directions to different holes etc.

Very nice course, every hole is unique. First nine is quite flat and follows the inlet. Wonderful views. Second nine is a little hilly but not extreme, except for #12! Tough par 5. Back nine views are fantastic. Another strong point of the course is Martin. Great guy, couldn’t be more helpful. Got us on the course on a busy Sunday, got us clubs, even a left hand set, found us a great hotel, and gave us tour advice on the area, which was all excellent. Then told us about a great pub, the Bridge Bar, where we met more wonderful people. The whole day was a great experience.
Thanks to all who helped maa as he our anniversary trip to Ireland a memorable experience

firstly the plus points - booking online was seamless and at 20 euros per head seemed good value - nine holer which at least gives you an idea as to what to expect 2nd time around - we managed to pick a perfect day (tuesday 2.00pm) when weather was excellent, very mild no rain or wind to speak of and very few other golfers on the course- fairways and greens were in good condition and some of the backdrops/scenery are stunning on a clear day
on a more negative note bunkers aren't great, very little sand and fairly small and tee boxes are frankly quite poor a bit more maintenance definitely required. Signages for the next tee box could be bigger/better especially coming of the 2nd green and seeking the route to 3rd hole (which is down a pathway before the approach to the 2nd green but not obviously visible for visitors)
Clubhouse is a mobile unit of decent size but you're best being changed ready to play rather than use the minimal facilities and whilst i did see an internal shutter pulled down inside the mobile i'm not sure if it signalled a 19th hole facility which wasn't open in any case
In summary good value for money given some of the more pricey courses in Donegal but certainly its more a turn up, play and go for a pint elsewhere facility

A lovely parkland course on outskirts of town.Hole 7, par 5 along lakeside a favourite.
Greens were good, on course toilet facilities between 13/14.
Very reasonable rate, very friendly welcome.
We played on a Monday and no bar/ refreshments available.
