Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Evan L1 contributionLove costigans so much, especially Beans and Layla !!!! Beans hairline is kind of receding but it’s okay I love him stillWritten 3 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Paolo S4 contributionsGreat atmosphere, easy-to-find position, and the music: a sensational session by four musicians round a table, honest, true. I liked it a lot!Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andrew O1 contributionGreat time and very informative! Would gladly come back again! The lessons were very clear and well taught. The class was for all levels of learners.Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dominique F2 contributionsLoved this place!! Great music and vibe. A bit hard to find as it's kinda hidden in an alleyway but I went with friends and family and we all had a good time.Written 26 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MICKDUTCHCarrigaline, Ireland294 contributionsPopped in here for a couple of drinks recently, really busy as people were having pre drinks before going into the Everyman next door, found a seat out side . Really friendly staff with table service outside
Definitely a go to place on McCurtain StreetWritten 24 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a Cosy bar with a great atmosphere on Oliver Plunkett street . It was particularly busy the night we visited , but a great buzz was palpable . Well worth a visit .Written 23 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ferenc MUnited Kingdom1,121 contributionsGreat range of beers and lovely historic pub. Great service too.
The music is loud and alternative so you don't come here for a quiet drink though. There are a few outdoor seats in the alley outside which is next to a building site currently.
So may not be everyone's cup of tea if looking for that 'Olde Pub' experience although we loved itWritten 11 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Candj9173North West England, UK830 contributionsA very traditional pub which has minimalist decor. Staff were friendly and the pub was clean.
The pub has a good relationship with the restaurant next door and it is possible to bring food from there into Henchy's pub and eat it there.Written 30 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - crcurtis31Boston, MA15 contributionsStopped in on a Sunday night and absolutely loved this pub. Was very quiet until the live music began, then wonderful. The musicians sat at a table and encouraged everyone to chime in, and by the end of the night everyone was singing and dancing in one big group. Felt welcoming and extremely fun, like going out with people you’ve known forever, even family. Highly recommend!Written 4 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- StepGu19 contributionsArranged an afternoon stag day here at the weekend. Bowling, pool, table tennis and really good food for a reasonable price.
Had a bar tab and wristbands to access the tab, all worked out well.Written 29 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Of the three very much a locals bar but friendly nonetheless.
They like their sport especially the horse but since it is owner occupied it has its own quirks - they go big for Eurovision and love the magazine rack full of glossy travel mags.
My mum & grandparents came from the nearby 'Jewtown' so love coming back here when in town.
As you can see from pics a working pirt just outside.Written 24 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sebastjan FEurope927 contributionsGret pub style bar, live music, authentic atmosphere. Authentic also mean a bit sticky tables from gallons of ciders and beer split, but that was something to expect. Really nice atmosphere. We travelled whole Ireland to get "finally" one bar/pub which is not a tourist trap. I hope so.Written 3 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
