Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Rose C1 contributionMy family and I spent 2 weeks in Ireland and one of those days was a memorable one in Cork. I traveled with my husband and 4 children 19 and up. We hoped we would experience a true Irish pub and we did!! Costigan's Pub lived up to everything you would imagine an Irish pub would be. The Pub has been there since 1849, awesome music, the Guinness was great and Colm and his team were fantastic!!! We all talked and laughed with Colm while sitting outside the bar and my kids had a blast with the bartenders and locals in the pub. Thank you, Colm (and everyone else), for giving us such a lovely evening. It truly was a memorable night and hope to be back one day soon!!!! - Kym C1 contributionThis was such a fun experience! Instructor was so kind and welcoming, and showed us through all the steps. You then practice these with traditional Irish music so it is not long before you get into the Irish spirit! Next time we are in Cork we will DEFINITELY return! It's a great place to meet new people too, and create very special memories that you will cherish forever. We shared some good laughs too, and it is so rewarding once you practice the dance as a group towards the end. GREAT FUN! Can't recommend this enough!!Written 28 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Struggled through all the tiny streets only to find you cannot park anywhere without a permit and The Gateway no longer exists!Written 18 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On a very busy Saturday evening, she was extremely efficient, but above all else, friendly, warm and accomodating. Everything you could ask for. Thank you!Written 8 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AndydjpStotfold, UK637 contributionsA historic pub down an alleyway, quite small inside and out but cosy and welcoming. Staff were friendly and we had a comfortable and enjoyable drink, Worth a visit for a pint or two.Written 27 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - crcurtis31Boston, MA15 contributionsStopped in on a Sunday night and absolutely loved this pub. Was very quiet until the live music began, then wonderful. The musicians sat at a table and encouraged everyone to chime in, and by the end of the night everyone was singing and dancing in one big group. Felt welcoming and extremely fun, like going out with people you’ve known forever, even family. Highly recommend!Written 4 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- The Bowling G2 contributionsPopped in here last night Saturday with my family- the door person (Scotish man think his name was Dave) was amazingly helpful finding us seats and having the craic with my parents
My Dads in his 80s and poor on his legs- rather than him using the toilets up stairs he kindly suggested the bar next door and escorted us to a lower level toilet all with a smile on his face and with great banter.
Amazing service and greatly appreciated
The bar its self was right up our street with lots of rustic charm - busy but the other patrons were all lovely

- Moog0_4Carrigaline, Ireland751 contributionsImagine walking into a Neighbors front room , equipped with a bar & that’s where you have found yourself with the Hi Bi . It’s a Cosy bar with a great atmosphere on Oliver Plunkett street . It was particularly busy the night we visited , but a great buzz was palpable . Well worth a visit .Written 23 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- chepaddyEdinburgh, UK6,999 contributionsLocated on the docks in what is becoming a major spot in city with Goldbergs and The Sextant either side of it.
Of the three very much a locals bar but friendly nonetheless.
They like their sport especially the horse but since it is owner occupied it has its own quirks - they go big for Eurovision and love the magazine rack full of glossy travel mags.
My mum & grandparents came from the nearby 'Jewtown' so love coming back here when in town.
As you can see from pics a working pirt just outside.Written 24 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sebastjan FEurope708 contributionsGret pub style bar, live music, authentic atmosphere. Authentic also mean a bit sticky tables from gallons of ciders and beer split, but that was something to expect. Really nice atmosphere. We travelled whole Ireland to get "finally" one bar/pub which is not a tourist trap. I hope so.Written 3 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

We stayed across the street from the pub and visited each night we were there. Frank, the owner, treated us as if we were family. The regulars all had stories to tell and songs to sing.
Pat Buckley’s is the quintessential Irish experience. We were sad to have to leave. If you are lucky enough to pass through Cork be sure to visit Pat Buckley’s. ☘️🍺Written 29 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
