- TacomaDawnTacoma, WA164 contributionsWonderful hike through sheep filled hills with sweeping views of the countryside led up to the American Monument. Being American we were moved by the Scottish building this monument to our lost soldiers of WWI off the coast of Islay. Great photo opportunities.Written 2 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AndreaLancashire424 contributionsOne of many stunning beaches on Islay, just a few mins drive from Kilchoman distillery and a reasonable single track road to a small car park, there are no toilet facilities however we always pop up to the distillery and enjoy a lovely coffee after our walk and they have fabulous facilities.Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hazel27 contributionsT`here distillery are great and a good walk , but keep driving up that road and see the ancient Kildalton church and cross …it’s truly beautiful. Then back onto the road again and travel to a beach with such clear water, so beautiful.Written 24 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mariela M1 contributionI highly recommend a trip to Isle of Islay and stop at Laphroaig. It was a great tasting experience - from the views and scenery, to the smells, and the product itself. Plus the warmth and welcoming of the staff in general made the tasting a very enjoyable experience. If you are short on time and are coming from the mainland, I recommend the earliest flight in the morning to Islay and since there are other distilleries, it is worth staying for the full day and take the last flight back later in the afternoon. The island is beautiful and the location of Laphroaig is like a fairy tale. If you have more time and want to drive from the mainland, it is a long drive plus ferry but if you are up for the road trip, and spend a night or two in Islay, that may work, too. My husband and BIL absolutely enjoyed this experience, too, to the point that we want to go back and spend more time in the island. If you are not driving in the island once you arrive, there are no Uber rides that we could find and the local bus might not be as frequent as some blogs I read were suggesting. However, there are very friendly taxi drivers that can drive you from and back to the airport if you arrange with them upon arrival, unless you are able to arrange for transportation ahead of time.Written 8 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We headed to the bar where we met ROB, relatively new to the Distillery, but what a great guy! His knowledge of the Whiskies was great and conveyed the Bowmore business history and his personal views/memories on the Island he obviously loves to us. as he poured our Bowmore Whiskies to taste. LYN and KIM also chipped in with lovely friendly conversation and fun adding up to a wonderful experience as we overlooked the bay from this fantastic Distillery.Written 10 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A short walk across a field of sheep and the cross was easily seen and very weathered.
It was a drive on single track roads but definitely worth it it glorious weather.Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He shared his vast knowledge of culture, history, birds, and wildlife, while we toured many special locations on the Island. Our last highlight was a great view of the Endemic Chough on the church ruins where our ancestors were married. Thanks DJ!Written 6 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ninawyoUnited States22 contributionsOur group of 5 came in January of 2019 for a Whisky and Chocolate pairing. I am late in writing this review -- but just want to say, out of the many tours we did in Islay, this was our favorite! One, because it was unique -- and the flavors of the whisky were so different when paired with the chocolate. But mostly as we loved Nigel our tour guide. He was so friendly and knowledgeable -- you saw his passion for the whisky at every turn. He answered all our questions, and again, we just loved his enthusiasm! I would definitely recommend!Written 15 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Hazel27 contributionsStunning countryside, lots of harriers , swallow and lapwings , butterfly .. we arrived on a very hot day but the swallows worked tirelessly back and forth to the nest under the eaves of the bird hideWritten 24 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DJM1945Montrose, UK1,859 contributionsThe church at Kilchoman is derelict and ruined and access is not possible as entry is barred. There are graves round the building and it is possible to see an ancient cross in the graveyard, but here is no information about the age of the building.Written 15 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
