Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely brilliant experience. Our tour guide was called Morgan and she was great, very clear and concise facts, felt very safe and informed throughout the tour. The tour really is brilliant and provides a great insight into the history of Edinburgh and would definitely recommend. Well worth the money and Morgan you were fabulous!!!

We really enjoyed our trip to Britannia. Full of interesting history and a lot to see! Friendly staff who were super helpful. Wrap up warm when it’s cold outside as it does get a bit chilly in some places!

We also enjoyed the tea rooms which served us lovely scones and tea!

This museum is incredible. It covers so many different topics that there is surely something for everyone. I'm honestly surprised that the museum is free! I've paid to go into museums with fewer things.
You could quite easily spend a whole day in the museum if you were to check out everything they have.
The roof terrace is worth a visit, some great views across the cityscape.

Excellent as usual. I have one reservation however. Please re-instate the one way system. It makes for a more logical and enjoyable experience. There were several "Oh, we'!ve already been in here" moments

Lovely double gates when you arrive, all the rooms are splendidly set out and immaculate, informative staff who answered any question you had. Princess Anne had dinner there the night before i was told, lovely gardens and views of the mountains, a must place to visit.

Great experience. Very enjoyable. My three kids (age 6, 8 and 10) loved it. The hot chocolate was divine. Making the bars was so fun. Our tour guide Lucinda was brilliant.

Colin was an amazing host. He was funny and very informative and looked after us all during the tour. The "storyteller" was superb. Fully recommend and well worth the money. The only downside for me and my partner was that the 1st drink was automatically mixed with soda water which I would have rather had another option than that. But, I understand, that's a personal choice. Bravo to all. Brilliant.

This was amazing! It’s a truly unique haunted experience with actors interacting and telling actual historical horror stories of the city in such a fun and unique way. Truly everyone working there from the actors to the photo people made this such a fun experience! I’m from Florida and have gone to a handful of different horror attractions (howl-o-scream, HHN, scream-a-gaeddon) and this was unlike any horror attraction I’ve ever been too! And I really loved that it was educational too, using real Edinburgh historic happenings as its basis! The ride was such a cute little bonus and way to end things, making it seem as if you’re being hanged at the gallows. This is a MUST DO coming to this city, as it really immerses you into the cities history. My husband and I were so giddy afterwards.

For me, there's about an hour and a half of good painting-gazing in me at any time before I can't absorb any more, and this museum just exceeds that. You could return and get more out of it, but it's designed to give you a complete experience in 90 minutes, with global and national masterpieces.

A serious museum not for the frail. The entry fee is very reasonable. The exhibits were extremely morbid and quite sad in a way - that 300 years ago people suffered so much, check out the scoliosis, lordosis and syphilis exhibits. I would say it would take one to two hours to thoroughly inspect the exhibits, but I think most peoples sensitivity and compassion would be worn out after an hour. I would like to have seen the gift shop a little larger. It added a little humor at first to what was quite dark in places on different levels. But this museum would be of interest to students of medical history, undergraduates, esp Vesalius up to Burke and Hare body snatching. Unfortunately, no photographs are allowed. I wouldn’t visit again because pathology is what it is, but this museum shows the early primitive surgical beginnings, and the medical fascination with the workings of the human body.

Wonderful tour from Max at Summerhall Distillery. Really interesting to hear about the history of Pickering gin, the gin making process, and of course sample all the delicious gins!
