Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Ria DDurham, England, United Kingdom22 contributionsThe ladies inside the church were beyond welcoming. As for the churchyard so stunning, clean and accessible. Hoping to go back to do it all again soon.Written 8 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Charlotte B71 contributionsThis was lovely and a great stop in Edinburgh! I went with some family and my little brother, whose name is actually Bobby, and loved the fact that the was dog had the same name as him! The gravesite is genuinely beautiful and we had a look to find some of the oldest graves and actually found one as old as 1616! It is lovely to see how well preserved some of these graves are and how beautiful and big the site was. We didn’t actually have time to go in the church but from what I have heard and seen it looks and sounds lovely. The memorial to Greyfriars Bobby at the entrance is adorable and it was altogether a beautiful place.Written 26 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - weekakEdinburgh, UK1,869 contributionsDean cemetery is in a beautiful location near Dean village but is a bit of a hike uphill. This is a huge cemetery with lots of influential, important, interesting people like Elsie ingles, John Bellamy, Henry Cockburn, Agnes Henderson Brown, people involved with Queen Victoria, people involved with William Burke are all buried here and many more. It is worth doing a bit of research beforehand to find out exactly who is buried here and seeking them out. I wish there was a map or something as a guide, I visited at least 5 times, in search of specific memorials and still haven't found them all but there are beautiful interesting monuments but it's the ones that don't necessarily stand out that are worth seeking. There are no toilets that I could see in or around Dean cemetery so I was always on a mad dash to Princess street to find a loo, sometimes having to cut my visit short which was frustrating. But if your into historical graveyards, this is a must see.Written 1 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the middle of the kirkyard there is a beautiful, small, historic, very atmospheric , 15th-century church. The church is open for visitors only on Wednesdays 10.30am-12.00 noon, except December and January. At the churchyard, we can find many old, interesting tombstones. This is just amazing place for looking at all this amazing, beautiful. old graves. Really pleasurable experience, ike a walk in a beautiful garden.Written 28 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - matthew pEdinburgh, UK112 contributionsI went here as I got a graveyard book and can look up names of long since dead famous edinburgh folk, there is a statue outside the church of Robert Louis Stevenson whom came from the area. There are two graveyards in this church but can be bit slippery to walk in rainy weather. Also when you walking around the graveyards you can see a waterfall and the water of leith. When you leave the church I walked up the lang steps from here which also gave information regarding robert Louis Stephenson and which took me up to the village of colinton.Written 3 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are very old gravestones in here so there quite interesting to look at but beware!! there's is a very real danger off get knocked down when you cross the road as the road leading up to the village is on a hill with a bend in the road.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
