Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited Monkey Barrel for The Big Show at 5pm on a Saturday as part of a stag weekend. Was worried initially that it might be too quiet with it being the early show but that wasn’t the case - a small, intimate, venue with a number of groups of people of all ages and backgrounds in the audience.
The Compere - George Fox - set the mood with some hilarious audience interaction, then each of the 4 acts had a short set in the overall 90mins.
I’ve never liked the term “laughing until your sides ache”, but this was genuinely the case - Daniel Petrie and Amy Matthews in particular.
All the staff were incredibly welcoming and I can honestly say if this was on my doorstep I’d want to be there as often as possible; absolute bargain and somewhere you should absolutely visit if you’re in Edinburgh of an evening.

What a great night. The host was brilliant. The way they dealt with people talking was hilarious and really well done.
Love the fact that no phones and no talking was really well enforced.
Comedians we saw all brilliant. And 4 comedians for 20quid absolute bargain. Felt we had been there 10 mins when the 2hrs were up!!! Always sign of a good time.
The audience participation was fantastic. Would plan to arrive a little bit earlier to try and get a table as the venue itself is small and mostly standing.
    Will be back.

A fantastic few hours non stop laughing! Three acts set within a vibrant pub, on the top floor. Reasonably priced drinks too! Highly recommend! #Colin #scissor

Amazing acts, welcoming environment. Angus was fabulous! It’s downstairs if you’re wondering, the door says ‘staff only’ but don’t be fooled, it’s a den of comedic brilliance in there.

Fun evening at the Edinburgh Festival 2023. Staff were great. Ticketing well organized. Food vendors were limited; we expected more international street food (Thai, noodles etc) Otherwise, a fab venue with lovely staff and great bar service.

We had the best time with Cab-arete to celebrate a birthday. It’s such a great way to spend a couple of hours. Sylvia is hilarious, we had so much fun! We also shared a bottle of Prosecco along the way which is included in the price. If you want to do something a bit different this is the way to do it.

Wonderful night last night. So funny, with five different types of comedy all of whom were top class. A number one show to see. This is a guaranteed laugh out loud.
