We are riding back from our day tour of Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath. Lovely day trip. Oliver, our tour guide was personable and informative, giving us facts and bits of history along the way and clear to hear and understand. Sokal, our driver was great. The drive was smooth and felt safe even through a point of very heavy rains. The tours were amazing but I think cramming three into a day felt a bit rushed for us. I would definitely recommend people looking to consider your wants and needs and split them up if you can.
By the time we got into Windsor Castle after getting there early to be first tour group in line and wait an hour in the rain (not the tour or guides’ fault but people were clearly unhappy thinking we were going right in when we got there), we only had about 45-50 minutes to explore before having to get back to the bus. We were speed walking through rooms and listening to random tour info as we went but didn’t take any time to stop moving and take it all in. If you just want to pop in to see it and say you were there or just walk the perimeter , that works but we could have honestly spent a whole day there and still probably feel like we needed to see more as well as extra time to explore the town around.
Stonehenge will vary from person to person what you get out of it. It’s a distance of a drive and we got there, walked to the entrance and took a bus up to the site, walked there and spent about 10 minutes max looking and taking pics and were on our way back to the bus. We had enough time to look in the shop, grab a coffee and snack, hit the restroom and get back to our bus, The drive leaving Stonehenge was gorgeous and got to see lots of sheep, cows and pigs along with some historical military buildings and old villages and beautiful countryside.
Bath was definitely a gem and another spot we could have spent a lot more time at! We didn’t feel as rushed here, the Roman baths and surrounding area were very interesting and historical. Tons of amazing artifacts to see and explore. We got through with plenty of time to walk around the town after and grab a hot chocolate and cookie at Mrs. Potts on our way back to the bus and then stopped at a liquor store to sample some meads and drinks and grab some bottles while waiting for the bus.
The ride between locations and ride back definitely gives time to kick back and nap or whatever you would like to do. Overall, we had a fantastic day but if I had looked or known more before, definitely would have split it up or maybe it was just a sampling for knowing what to do on a future trip.
