Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    First time visiting, toilets clean and easy to use, there were lots of lovely shops and restaurants
    Would happily chose to enter London via there again

    Gets way to busy. Fast though. Normally very crowded and don't always get a sea t. Extremely noisy. Fun

    Would reccomend if:
    You don't mind noise and crowd/comfort

    Wouldn't reccomend if:
    You hate noise and need a seat with some space

    PROS
    * A true symbol of London- they are iconic and fantastic and incredible
    * The service and frequency of is incredible- they are abundant and ubiquitous- they are simply everywhere
    * It is a beautiful sleek and stylish countour design- it's fun to just see them on the streets
    * The joy and fun of riding these British historical and cultural landmarks is so exhilarating
    * A fantastic fun experience
    * A great view is seen from the top deck, especially in front, so climb the stairs and sit on the top first row for the most incredible views
    * Good and experienced drivers
    * Many/most routes have 24 hour service- the route number has the prefix N
    * Dedicated entry (front and sometimes very back) and middle exit doors
    * Scenic opportunity to see the sites from a safe place and not pay a lot
    * Inexpensive GBP1.75 per ride
    * Use the TfL or Citymapper applications or routes and efficient quick choices
    * Pay via applepay or android pay or actual Oyster card

    CONS
    * One must board and enter on the left side of the bus
    * The steps to the upper deck can be treacherous- one must hold on tightly
    * One must rise and descend the steps before arriving at destination

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... numerous times because no "visit' to London is complete without riding these double decker buses- on the top and in the front. I did that a number of times and every day and it was incredible. again, I regreted that i didn't use it enough and that i didn't use it enough especially in central London- only one evening I took it from Picadilly Circus to Leicester Square

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Absolutely

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Of course

    ADVICE
    * Be sure to do this at least once- preferably in central London where the landmark buildings and structures are- and at least once if not more times
    * Be sure to climb the steps to the top and to sit in the front row
    * Be sure to rise and descend from there using the steps before arriving at destination- but be sure to hold on firmly to that spiral yellow handrail
    * Be sure to board and enter on the left side of the bus 😅
    * Be sure to use the Citymapper and/or TfL apps
    * Be sure to have applepay, android pay or physical Oyster card and tap on the circle when entering (do not tap on exiting- that would generate an additional fare cost)

    I used their services on the Gatwick Airport - Victoria route and back. The train is clean, fast, you have free access to Wi-Fi, the seats are comfortable. Tickets are expensive. Unfortunately, on the way there, the train had a breakdown and we had to take another train, from an intermediate station.

    Our train was cancelled but I just wanted to mention how good the staff were. They were very knowledgable and friendly and gave us an alternative route to get us home.

    Visited on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 As part of a day trip to London. Woolwich Ferry. It was still free and my first time on it since I went on it as part of the circular cycle around East London back in 2012. I exited the King George V DLR Station and walked the rather decrepit streets the short distance to the Woolwich Ferry. You can queue with your vehicle or walk under the Thames using the foot tunnel. I chose to queue and as there was only 1 of the 2 Ferrys in operation the time to wait was circa 20-30 mins. Once the Ferry was on my side, you could access the ferry and either stand in the open or the covered side seating area. The ferry takes about 10 mins to empty its vehicle and people contents and be refilled. The crossing takes about 10 mins and provides a free view down the Thames. Once in Woolwich, it is a similarly poor/decrepit area of now South London. Either way, unless you have a reason to use this free ferry there is little value to doing so.

    This underground station must be one of the coldest in London. It's drafty even in summer. However, the staff cannot be held responsible for their surroundings. Recently I observed one employee go beyond the call of duty to help passenger after passenger understand where to go. He was so patient and good-humoured.

    * Convenient tube station
    * Very near the British Museum
    * Next to Russell Square

    CONS
    Crowded

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
    … after walking from St. Pancreas Train Station to the British Museum, I entered this station and returned to collect and fetch my luggage by entering this station. It was certainly OK- my first encounter with the London Underground on that visit.

    WOULD I VISIT AGAIN?
    Sure/ if it were convenient for me after my next visit to the British Museum

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Sure

    ADVICES
    Use it to travel to the awesome world-class British Museum

    I had to travel back on the busiest service of the day which is usually the 7.30pm from Paddington to Stroud - the service that ends in Cheltenham - the service was extremely crowded and as usual there were only 5 carriages on - this service is consistently busy every day in the week - and really needs more carriages as by the time the train is pulling into London the aisles are packed with standing passengers. It’s hugely annoying that GWR are more than happy to keep selling tickets with no seats seemingly available - even if they have to honour a contractual obligation to allow for walk up fares - the point is they should add more coaches to the service. I’ve seen 9 coach trains on this line - so having a 6 coach service surely must be an option?

    Good service and staff were all lovely. I love the first class travel seats and service. I used the first class lounge at Kings X which is great as I always seem to get bothered by drunks waiting outside. The chicken and gravy roll was very tasty and good choice of drinks. Very satisfied

    Pride if face seems to have been lost to the shadows, as HS1 fleet. used to be well kept, a few years ago. But today, now I occasionally opt for a quicker skip over from Stratford to Kings cross, I have consistently found the interior drab, heavily worn-out flooring, and gunk on the door step plates, and don't get me started on the awful pong of pee throughout the carriages! What on earth is going on with their fleet of trains I cannot imagine. For the price paid for the trip, I would expect Southeastern to keep up the pride they once had. Such a shame, as the trains as a means of travel, do a very good job of delivering the traveller at a good pace. Come on Southeastern! You can do this!

    This service is awful, we were stranded in Luton because there were no substitutes for cancelled trains. Unbelievably unreliable and absolutely inexcusable for a place like this
