Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    At the war's end, they left everything the way it was, closed the doors, and locked it. Today it is a fascinating and astounding trip into the past. This tiny rabbit warren was where Winston Churchill and up to 500 people at the war apex lived and worked. A Winston Churchill museum also contains mementos, speeches, documents about the war and his military career, and family about this enigmatic man. It's a fascinating glimpse into history and wonder how a global war could be orchestrated in such austere conditions.

    PROS
    * Fantastic historical military museum
    * Amazing displays primarily from World War I and World War II
    * tremendous amount of material on display
    * The documentation and explanations and displays of the Holocaust section are among the most amazing and extensive in the world
    * There are coin operated lockers to leave your stuff
    * It is free

    CONS
    * Not on the primary circuit of "things-to-do" in London- I never saw it on anyone's published recommended list
    * It does not tell of British wars up until World War I- that was a big disappointment to me
    * It is on the south side, away from (just about) all other main and major tourist attractions
    * The building is interesting and historic but old

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... as part of my mission to try and do and see as much as i could in London. I learned and read about the museum and it very much interested me.

    I traveled by the underground to Waterloo and then took a bus and walked through the little Geraldine Park.

    I viewed the entrance with the demonstrations of artillery and cannons and entered and greeted warmly by staff and directed to storage lockers which are operated by coin, and I travel cashless.

    The building is old and not new.

    There is stuff on several floors.

    The exhibits of the two world wars was very extensive and detailed and fantastic.

    The massively detailed and extensive section on the Holocaust was a big surprise and totally unexpected for me. It was so detailed and so documented and so extensively graphic that it left me standing there speechless and just about faint and dizzy. Worn out and exhausted from the museum, I almost rushed through the Holocaust exhibit- I wasn't prepared for it and it is outstanding and excellent, but it was too much after two hours of the other stuff

    I was exhausted when I finished and left the place.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST
    It was free

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    No reason not to do that, except I would come better prepared and know what to expect

    ADVICE
    * An incredibly worthwhile museum, so make the effort to go

    My Dad and I had a really nice visit. The Battle of Britain Four tour led by James Young was a real highlight - very knowledgable and clearly very passionate. Had a decent meal in the restaurant. Overall a great day out - thanks.

    After crossing Tower Bridge & Potter's Field Park, You might consider visiting HMS Belfast, which is permanently moored on the Thames a short walk from Tower Bridge on the south bank.

    Launched just before the outbreak of World War 2, this Royal Navy Light Cruiser saw action in both World War 2 and the Korean War, before being decommissioned in 1963.

    you can spend a good deal of time learning all about operational life on board a warship, as well as the history of HMS Belfast specifically. Definitely a worthwhile part of your visit.

    Actually more interesting than expected. I enjoyed seeing the guns and outfits of course but also the history behind everything else. The story of the lion and the cat and other random stories that were unexpectedly interesting.

    A must see for anyone, interested in Poland's World War 2 history. Uniforms, weapons, documents to many to list. The famous tailplane of the 188th plane shot down by 303 squadron is displayed. General Anders desk along with uniform is displayed. General Sikorski's plane crash uniform also. Very moving bits of history

    We had a great tour (despite the cold), ably guided by Mick Skerritt whose stories and insights brought the amazing grounds, buildings and purpose of this 300-year old institution. Keep up the good work!

    This is a small venue that houses monuments to those who have their lives in three wars. Apparently there was some reshuffling of venues at a previous home as the land/space was needed for other things and the monuments were relocated here. There are a few exhibits on the walkways above and the venue now seems to be focusing on pre-booked events. Luckily, this venue opened their doors for London Open House 2024, giving an opportunity to see the inside. The colors used inside are based on the regiment’s colors and are striking. There was a small space to have a seat and coffee/tea snacks. If of interest, check the website for open hours beforehand.
