- 414alliDarlington, UK3 contributionsKids took part in Sundown Treetop challenge for Halloween. Thoroughly enjoyed the challenges in the dark. Only issue was no lighting back to a pitch dark car park. As a result one of our party tripped on an uneven path, fell over and cracked their head, and twisted ankle. Surely some low level lighting to the car park is a must from health and safety perspective as people could get seriously hurtWritten 3 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GillianW31Cumbernauld, UK47 contributionsLove this place! Lovely walks, perfect for kids. Great park and we really enjoyed the gruffalo birthday trail for £4. Will always visit when in the lakes.Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jan cShrewsbury, UK557 contributionsThe gallery was very good and well worth a visit if in the area and a National Trust member but feel it is rather expensive if not. Gentlemen on door very informative so could get best out of experience. Authentic dressing of rooms. Very small areas so glad we went while quiet. Upstairs would be inaccessible to some as very narrow steep stairs. Pity had to pay for car parking too as not NT and toilets 50p to enter which isn’t visitor friendly. Classic tourist trap. Good selection shops to wander around to make visit worth the parking fee!Written 16 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cleevusHue, Vietnam12 contributionsThis museum is a rarity in that it captures authentic school life over the past few hundred years. It also has managed to keep its library intact, rather than lose it to a university library. For those interested in schools and schooling from a historic perspective, it is a brilliant museum - one of the best I've seen. The fact that William Wordsworth attended the school along with his brothers gives it added importance. We really learnt a great deal about the school, its reputation, Wordsworth and Hawkshead from our visit. The museum organisers/curators have done a great job. The fact that the school and Wordsworth have historic connections with St John's College, Cambridge gave us an added interest as we also have connections with that College.Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - michael m25 contributionsAmazing views from the varied shaded garden areas which adorn the hillside above the house where Ruskin lived which is also part of the cost of your visit and well worth looking around. The cost includes returns for a whole year. The lovely cafe is a little gem too. You will not be dissapointed if you choose to visit here. Though as stated the gardens are not all on the level so are not easily accessible for those with reduced mobility.Written 24 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alfy BLivingston, UK31 contributionsGreat campsite. Pitches are well spaced out. Our hardstanding pitch had space for our van and a decent sized awning and still had a grass area for sitting out.
The shower block was nice and clean, providing an indoor area for washing up, a laundry room, clean and bright toilets and good showers. There’s also a TV Room but we didn’t use it. Strong, stable wi-fi connection.
The village of Hawkshead, which has a good selection of shops and pubs, is a short walk away along a path next to a stream. There are plenty of paths nearby for dog walking.
We enjoyed our stay and would visit again.Written 18 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's classed as moderate, in summer you could probably do it in trainers, but I'd recommend trail shoes or walking boots.
Allow 2-3 hours, and allow time for photographs.
The Queens Head pub in Hawkshead has a list of 4 local walks (loops) to take away, which I would recommend. I also recommend trying their beers, which are very well kept and friendly staff.Written 27 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The church is well maintained and there are a lot of grounds you can walk around as well.Written 1 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jason B2 contributionsWent to try pike fishing for the first time ever, and turned up early on a Sunday morning. I was introduced to my guide for the day ( dave ), who had all the gear we required for our day on the lake, rods bait etc.
You could tell Dave knew his business straight from the off, he drove us to our first location, and within minutes had three rods spread out the boat anchored up, and had me watching the floats in what could only be called a hoping vigil.
Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst, it started raining.
But within an hour dave pointed out one of the floats was on the move, under the guidance of Dave a successful strike was made, and my first ever pike was was reeled in.
Dave netted and unhooked the pike, i had a few selfies with the pike, who probably weighed in at around 8-10 pound, not a monster but a great catch all the same.
Dave and i stayed out for a few more hours, but the rain was that bad that even my waterproofs gave up and water started to seep in, so being cold and wet, i gave up on the hope of a second pike,
Still it was a most enjoyable day, and dave was great company. The may of ended in a soggy drive home, but i would do it all again.Written 10 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tim has a great eye for wonderful art and it made for very tough decisions. In depth knowledge makes for a fascinating visit and good prices keep a smile on your face even as you leave some absolute beauties behind. I'll be back.Written 20 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
