Hengistbury head is and will always be one of my favourite beachs. It was here where I proposed to my future wife.
To be honest I was bricking it from the day before we went. My plan was quite simple but flawless- I had this idea of finding a message in a bottle with ‘Will you marry me?’ written on a note inside the bottle. What I didn’t know, was how I was convincing her to go to the beach (which wasn’t a very beach weather day).
I chose Hengistbury head- as you can take dogs, it’s a nice walk, and it doesn’t get too busy. The last thing I wanted was for loads of people to witness me getting down to one knee.
We walked down the beach front, all with my thumb in that little pocket in my jeans. Making sure I hadn’t lost the ring. Let’s be honest if I dropped it I wouldn’t be finding it very easy.
We walked til the peak of the beach (turning point). It was there where I decided to do the proposal.
I said that we’d better give the dog some water. So while she was faffing about with the bag and the water, I crept off to try and semi bury this bottle. Very subtly (not) I dug my heel into the sand/stoney terrain, semi submerged the bottle and waited.
I had to give her a huge hint “oh look a bottle!” I encouraged her to get the bottle to open it. Still confused out of her mind she unrolled the note and read allowed “Will you marry me?” Instantly burst into tears to find me behind the note holding onto this sweaty ring that I’d been in skin contact with since we parked up. Obviously said yes (I’m a stud).
We walked down to mudeford beach where we had a glass of Prosecco each and walked back to the car on the high ground. It was a lovely day. It’s a lovely beach. Lots of parking.

We had a lovely walk through Lower Gardens whilst walking from the beach to the town centre shops. The paths were nice and wide and the grassed areas were nice and tidy.

The Bournemouth Oceanarium is one of those attractions which I guess makes the seaside the seaside. This aquarium has a number of exhibits and sports such things as clown fish, sharks, and penguins. It costs £14.50 (adults) or £12.50 (seniors), family ticket are also available.

There is also a little shop on site that has small keepsakes and toys.

This is the 4th time I have been to see Michael Ball and Alfie Boe at the BIC, and as normal they are absolutely fantastic. I know that we are in difficult times but the queue to get in to have everything checked was ridiculous. Luckily we got there early but I know some people who were caught up in it and unable to get into the venue until the support act was on. This was clearly annoying for the people already there and very annoying for the people who tried to be there on time. The policy of getting rid of bottles of water needs to be addressed. I think it needs to be looked at by the sort of concert that is on. Clearly at a Ball and Boe concert for example there are people of the older generation who are not going to use their bottles of water as weapons. I understand you can get free water but you are still not allowed to put a top on it. Having said all the above I still woul not hesitate to go back as I have always loved it as a concert venue as the sound is so good.

Lovely pier and well-maintained. I can confirm that it is FREE and that a recent reviewer was talking about Bournemouth pier (which does cost £1.40 to enter).

We paid to get on the pier for 4 adults and twins of 3 were free. This was a surprise had a stroll along the pier and twins loved the rides which was quite pricey!! The Sunday was quite wet too but made the most of if.

Great town to wander around. Parking is easy in the paid open air car park. Parking in the actual town is harder. Nice shops, but quite a few homeless sleeping in doorways

Worth a visit even if you’re walking through quickly.
It’s a peaceful and beautiful place, no matter what the weather.
You can take a picnic and find a space, if nice otherwise there’s a cafe
No charge for entry and a great walk through if you’re at Boscombe pier and need to get into Boscombe or, if you’re on your way back from another place on a yellow bus, get off at the Boscombe Chine and walk to the Boscombe pier… anywhere between 20-40 mins walk, depending on your speed.

We went for Post Modern Jukebox grand tour concert a few nights ago and had such a lovely time.

Venue is spacious and iconic to Bournemoth with strategic location near the beach.

We checked their website which says only cards accepted for food and beverage but was told we had to pay cash for the ice cream at stalls when we were there so do bring cash along anyway. Wish they had been clear on their website though the cafe downstairs do sell the ice cream and you can pay with card for it.

The toilets really need a change as the flushing system is way too old and with the amount of crowds in the theatre, current set up really doesn’t support a hygienic toilet experience.

Other than that, it was nice to get back into attending live music and concerts again, post pandemic.
