What travellers are saying
- Yvonne H3 contributionsDidn't know much much about history of this castle but found the staff in the ticket office really helpful in giving a quick holistic perspective of the castle. The castle dates back hundreds of years and has a speckled history. Situated on what seems a cliff ledge overlooking a beautiful valley surrounded by woodland. In fact what remains of the castle are literally the ruins. Only walls are left standing of the original mansion and castle walls itself. Still lovely to see though.Written 23 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- dlh549London, UK30 contributionsMagical place. Visited a year ago and popped in yesterday - only to learn that it’s closed for now while the artist works on the space. Due to open again in Spring. Great news! Can’t wait to bring friends and family here.Written 2 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

Thank you all!Written 17 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Graeme CEssex, UK16 contributionsCannot fault the friendliness of the staff, their knowledge of their products and processes, nor could you be disappointed with the majority of their produce. Definitely a good reason to buy British, though wine wise they will struggle price point wise to compete with equally good wine from the mass market. It's definitely an uphill struggle for these vineyards on that front.
The cheeses were gorgeous and well worth buying. The same can be said for their chutneys etc.
Wine value for money aside, the other disappointment is with the website booking process. We pre-booked as suggested, so as to get a timeslot, but when we arrived the staff weren't clear on the option we chose via that website. The options were also slightly misleading and perhaps could be worded better to clearly state what to expect on the day. Minor "glitches" per se, rather than anything drastic and this shouldn't distract travellers from the attentiveness and warm welcoming that you will receive.
One final point, as of 2022, the location will change. Check their website for details and we wish them well. As with most places off the beaten track in Devon, the roads are more suited to using a pick axe to climb than a car. Take care on the roads and don't expect to arrive there quickly.Written 5 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - HetthepetRugby, UK241 contributionsFirst time visiting the gardens - it's worth going on a Friday when they do a free garden tour - very interesting to learn of the history. I can imagine the garden is beautiful to visit at other times of the year to see the various different flowers coming to life. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit - the gardens felt very peaceful too.Written 22 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tracey1169Willenhall, UK549 contributionsDidn’t know the market was on so great find. We parked in the car park by the market which I’m glad to say still uses real money. Lots of different stalls food produce, bric a brac, plants & lots more.Written 2 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- mrpiratepeteLondon, United Kingdom22 contributionsnow such an incredibly atmospheric music venues with such quality artists coming through, fuelling Totnes' electric and eclectic music sceneWritten 17 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- SteveScunthorpe, UK18 contributionsA really great place to visit and taste some really good craft beers while eating a takeaway from the Asian restaurant across the road. The staff are really informed, helpful and very friendly. What's not to like? We always visit every year we come to Totnes...our holiday wouldn't be the same otherwise.Written 12 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Lois P13 contributionsWhat a wonderful treasure trove of times past. Wide array of antiques and displays. Very atmospheric. All well presented. Not all of the museum was open when I visited which is a shame. Creaky floors and original furniture added to the atmosphere.Written 21 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Skiboy 20/20Kent, UK231 contributionsThis area is stunningly beautiful with hidden gems to be found around every corner.
I came here when I was a young boy and thought it might have changed for the worse but after 40 years or so, I assure you it's still as beautiful as ever.
The coastal routes are delightful, however a little narrow and hair-raising at times.
I can't beieve they run double decker buses through the most narrowest of roads, it's somewhat uncomfortable to think that after following a single track lane with high hedges for the last 3 miles, you come across the No.*** Totnes to Salcombe double decker bus facing you around the bend, head on, with nowhere to go but in reverse!!! The only drawback but the area certainly pays its dividends in full. Will always recommend the area, may be not the narrow lanes! ha! ha! Be warned!Written 10 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - TUFCDunblane, Scotland105 contributionsWe saw a board on the high street saying it was open so we followed the signs to the back of the church . It was just closing but we were welcomed in and told we could walk round . The hall was very impressive as was the council chamber . Good to also see the cells and the robes .Written 11 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Megansandison1 contributionI booked this for my brother as a birthday present as he loves goats, and he was not disappointed. Both me and my brother are 19, and we found it very entertaining being with all the animals and finding out loads about the farm.
The goat milking was very good, and it was funny interacting with the animals. We saw 1 week old calf’s as we were also shown around the farm.
The people there were all lovely and welcoming, and we will definitely be back again! Also we bought some of the produce there and it’s all very tasty!Written 2 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Al H13 contributionsFitted this in during visit to Totnes. Views are astounding but the climb is punishing. Staff helpful but the castle is a shell. Bare and stark.Written 13 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- cookieTLeicester125 contributionsSaw this on countryfile and booked the tour before we came down for our holiday. Richard did the tour, which was interesting, and then the generous sampling in the barn, served by Christine, a real family run business and has been for years now. 5 different generous samples and then a glass of your favourite. Absolutley brilliant, and amazing tasting cider. We went away with quite abit. Order online and try their stuff is wonderful stuff my lovlies :)Written 25 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
