Gorgeous vistas around every corner. How so many plants and trees have been accommodated into such a relatively small garden just beggars belief. Many statues and water features too. Make sure you have time to sit in the veranda for refreshments.Written 25 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - louiseholisticPenarth, UK959 contributionsIt’s always fun to travel from St Mawes to Falmouth on this small ferry. The staff are friendly and the views stunning. I just think £13.50 adult return is expensive for a 20 minute journey.Written 8 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Pebbles111Essex148 contributionsWe parked in the NT car park. There are toilets available but no cafe or refreshments.
We had a quick walk around the battlements and headed down to the two nearest beaches, Little & Great Molunan. Both are a little climb down rocks ( one has a rope to make the climb easier), so not easily accessible for the less mobile.
But, the beaches are beautiful. Flanked by cliffs which provide a little shelter. A mix of sand and stones with some interesting shells and rock pools at low tide.
We met a local who visits these beaches regularly and says they are the best in the area but can become very busy. Apparently the smaller beach gets completely cut off at high tide and when the tide is in there is very little beach left on the larger one, so people cram into a small space by the cliffs. However, when we visited it was really quiet and the tide was out, giving lots of space. It got busier as the afternoon went on, with speedboats of local youngsters visiting for BBQs and beach gatherings.
Beware the jellyfish on lots of the local beaches in the summer.
Would we return ? Yes, definitely.Written 16 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's quite small, but was fairly quiet when we visited. It was nice to sit down and enjoy the sun whilst our little dog had fun playing in the water.Written 27 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kevmoggDawlish, UK248 contributionsMarch visit for an anniversary stay, a walk just off the edge of the south west coast path. 6.5 miles ish caution very muddy and slippery under foot after rain,
lovely walk around the creek past small boatyards to poverty, then through a wooded valley up to the main road where the water tower resides, along by the main road on NT land which brings you out by the lovely church of st just in roseland, well worth a visit, then back along the fal river to past the small castle to st mawes I would say it is a moderate walk - tougher in wet muddy conditions, as we experienced.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlbywonSydney, Australia11,904 contributionsUseful information outlet, slightly away from the centre of the village. Friendly staff member. A few free materials but most things had a price which is a trend among these centres.Written 31 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul FChesterfield, UK2,543 contributionsSt Mawes is a very pretty place and the Quayside and harbour areas are very worth while visiting. Backed by cafes, pubs and a nice range of shops whilst seaward the far reaching views stretch back to Falmouth.
Its a lovely way to spend some time meandering along this pretty seafront.Written 5 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But, that is more than made up for by the beautiful & picture perfect village of St Mawes.
We walked up to the castle & back. Tide was in on our visit which meant not much of a beach.
Definitely want to revisit St Mawes as a beautiful & classy village.Written 8 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. At the top of the central car park it has a skate / scooter ramp, slides for all ages, plus a ship and two climbing frames and a wooden tree house. Lovely hop scotch tiles set in the tarmac too. A tennis court at the top. Just so I have to enjoy!Written 1 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul_of_AshbyLeicestershire311 contributionsExcellent little ferry. Seating 12 humans and a few dogs, it takes about 10-15 minutes to cross from St Mawes harbour to Place. Tickets can be bought at St Mawes or on line, but not at Place. They are not time specific, it is first come first go. At peak times the ferry drops the schedule and shuttles back and forth.
Place and the peninsular are well worth a visit with good walks around it. We did two separate crossings, covering the St Anthony lighthouse one day and Trewan beach (with café) another day.Written 11 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
