What travellers are saying
- jasonrisley6 contributionsI thought this was really cool! Sure, it may have only been a 20 minute boat ride, but the Paseo is really well done with plants of cool art work, bridges and fountains en route. They’ve put a lot of thought into this and it shows. Contrary to another post, the boats bring you right back to the starting point near the Macroplaza. The cost for adults was 120 pesos (roundtrip). The cafe that’s on the side of the Paseo is a little pricey, but the ambience made it worth it for a beer or two.Written 6 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Safe and family park.in it there are other attractions such as a wax museum and a boat rideWritten 22 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are two lookout points. For families, there’s a large playground and public restrooms. The only food and beverage option is the restaurant, which is part of the hotel. Otherwise, you may want to pack some snacks.
As we were walking around, I didn’t see any hiking trails. However, there were plenty of trails to choose from, as you’re making your way up the mountain. Be prepared to stop and pay a fee when entering by car. The fee up to the hotel for the two of us cost 136 pesos. The journey by car has a lot of twists and turns so if you have an issue with motion sickness, like me, it may be a challenge.
It’s easy to take an Uber up, but don’t plan on taking an Uber back. There were no cars available unless your timing is perfect when an Uber driver is dropping someone off. Plan on taking a taxi back to the city. The hotel will call a taxi for you. A ride back to our hotel in the San Pedro district cost 250 pesos.Written 15 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The views from the mountain where the caves start are almost amazing as the caves themselves. They do have a tram to get up to the entrance to the caves but it was not working the day we went. Expect to hike up a paved path for about 40 minutes depending on how fast or slow you climb.Written 28 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin PWaihi Beach, New Zealand432 contributionsWe've travelled 4m through the full length of Mexico and this would easily be the best museum we have seen. It covers the steelworks process, the changes in technology, the labour force issues. While much is in Spanish, if you just run Google Translate in camera mode all is quickly and easily translated.
There is also a planatarium environmental movie, a blast furnace animation/movie, and a high viewing platform. All in all a high quality experience which the rest of Mexico could learn a lot from.Written 23 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were few people at the museum so I was able to read and learn at a nice, quiet and leasurely pace.Written 15 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fernando J6 contributionsClimbing the Cerro de la Silla in Monterrey Nuevo León is an incredible experience since you can see a beautiful view of the entire city. The climb to the hill to reach the top is quite tiring but without hesitation, it is worth it, because you can appreciate a part of nature and another part of the construction of the human being.
To climb the hill it is necessary to have a good physical condition, without a doubt, the heat and the wind make it a challenge but the reward is worth it, because at the top it is possible to appreciate a moment of a unique view that few can enjoy.
To climb safely it is important to always follow the rules and instructions provided.
Going up and down takes courage but I would do it again, to be able to appreciate the view that the city of the mountains provides.Written 31 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Cañon la Huasteca, they told me, is actually the beginning of the Sierra Madre Oriental, which extends south for 1000 kilometers.
I had been invited to this event by Mexico’s Bakpak Magazine Community. When they invited me to join them for their first excursion of the new year, I was delighted and honored and off I went to Monterrey...
Well, these Bakpak people are pretty serious about their hikes and the day after my arrival there they were picking me up at 5:30 AM in total darkness.
“I always organize the first excursion of the year as early as I can,” I was told by Alex González, founder of Bakpak. “If they are willing to get up at 5:00 AM and actually do it, I know they are hooked, and I know they are going to fall in love with the outdoors.”
To my great surprise, the number of people who got up at five to stamp their feet in the dark on that cold Sunday morning came to 133.
Now, I know that Alex had promised all of them a delicious breakfast of chilaquiles made with a recipe handed down from his mother, but they would only get that breakfast after several hours of hiking. What was it that had hooked over a hundred people who could have stayed in their warm beds that chilly Sunday morning?
Just as the sun was peeking through the silhouettes of distant peaks, we began our hike through a flat riverbed bordered by matorral, desert scrubland. Soon we were on higher ground and reaching a level where the majestic beauty of those peaks could be appreciated. It was hard to believe that you could find such silence and solitude only 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Monterrey, with almost 300 bolted routes that attract mountain climbers from near and far.
I looked at the people around me. They were all city folk, “townies,” and here they were hiking through the mountains, and to me it looked like they were really enjoying themselves.
I turned to a married couple next to me.
“Are you having a good time?”
“¡Sí que sí!” they replied with enthusiasm. “We’ve been going on these excursions for three years. To tell you the truth, the first hikes seemed tough and we’d go back home utterly worn out… but now we’re used to it and we love it!”
My sombrero is off to the people who are introducing city folk to the great outdoors...and congratulations to the people of Monterrey who have such a great park only twenty minutes from town!Written 11 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Karla BolanderLemon Grove, CA5 contributionsMy husband and I came here when it was raining. There was one exhibit open and it was 100% worth it. We took about a couple of hours to spend our time around the exhibit. We even spent another time just to hang out in the corridor area.
The architect in the building is a beauty to look at. There is an outside area that was closed because of the rain.
This is a two-story building. And has many exhibits to explore. The price was fair for only one exhibit which was only 50 pesos per person. That’s only a $3.00 USD dollars.
I would say the value is there and the place with the art was worth our time & money. Would recommend.Written 18 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are four or five restaurants. the Mexican History museum, the original foundry that established Monterrey and a boat ride with commentary but all in Spanish. Very few people speak English in Monterrey. The huge plaza is part of the Governor's palace and the surrounding area is businesses and restaurants. We were there at Christmas so there was a light show at night that would have been good to see. Very clean, very safe and worth a look if you need to kill a few hours in Monterrey.Written 3 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
