The guide was nice and it was just fast paced enough to keep us entertained and engaged. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling near Bayahíbe and surrounding areas

We were picked up from the cruise terminal exactly at 8 am in the morning. There were about 10 people from our cruise signed up this tour. After a 30 minute drive via taxi van, we arrived at the tour office at Bayahibe where we had some paperwork taken care of. After that, we took a very short walk to marina to board our speed boat.

The speed boat ride itself was a lot of fun. The sceneries along the way were wonderful - reminded me a lot of the photos on postcards and in calendars. I really enjoyed the "natural pool" stop - the sea water was absolutely calm and only waist high while the coastline seemed very far away. Later the whole group voted and decided not to snorkel, so we ended up spending a bit more time (about 2 hours) at the Saona Island. The beach area we stayed at was kind of rocky, but we still had a great time walking around, admiring the most beautiful beach/island scene. Lunch started a bit after 11. There were chicken, pork chops, rice, salads, vegetables, etc.....They were all fresh and tasty. We paid extra for the lobsters and felt it was money well spent. The boat ride back to Bayahibe was a lot quicker. We were dropped off at the cruise terminal by the same taxi van around 2 pm. We even managed to swim at the pool inside the terminal before the all aboard time =). All in all, it was a great excursion at the La Romana Port!

Marina and the crew provided a great snorkelling experience. This is a smaller outfit and so it is limited to a small group. There were only 9 of us, which meant less time wasted getting in and out of the water and of course less crowded in the ocean. They were a super friendly bunch, spent time talking to each guest, and ensured we were well taken care of. I highly recommend visiting Catalina island with them if you love snorkelling!

This full day trip was wonderful, exactly what we needed. There was a minimal delay in response after booking but Robert jumped on it as soon as he could and was very apologetic and accomodating. He followed up repeatedly to ensure I was taken care of. Alex was a fabuous guide for the day. Typically they go to the cave first and then Casa De Campo but he agreed to swap it because rain was expected in the afternoon. This worked out perfect. Casa De Campo is a remarkable place, so happy we got to see it. The cave was beautiful, we were allowed to do our tour privately in between school groups. That was SO appreciated. We had lunch between both sites and the restaurant was really nice and the food was Delicious! We didn't get to go to the beach because of the sawp in itinerary, and it was raining, but we didn't care, it was a full day and we were happy. We got picked up at our hotel at 9am and returned around 4:30. Alex was a fantastic guide. He was born in the DR, moved to the states when he was 13 and then moved back after 10 years. Due to that, his English was great. My husband speaks spanish so Alex sometimes spoke with him in spanish as well. This was not similar to the other tourist options available in Santo Domingo so we really liked that.

Excellent family trip. Great food. Nice staff. Not too much time for snorkeling but it was perfect for us. We saw sting ray, starfish and had a good time in the beautiful water.

Overall we had a great time during this trip - it is a long day though, especially if you are picked up from the Uvero Alto area. Transport to the marina was without incident, although the marina itself is a bit run down looking.

It was a bit of a wait to get started and the boat seemed a bit overcrowded with both snorkelers and divers. The boat is just that - a boat, not a catamaran. It moves a LOT with the waves so be prepared for a least a good test of your balance. Some people on our trip were seasick so maybe some anti-motion sickness meds beforehand may help!

Access to and from the boat is by ladder and it can be a challenge for some people to haul themselves out of the water afterwards. The staff were pretty good at helping people out with that though.

Staff were overall very friendly and spoke many languages so communication was not a problem. They did check our diving certifications before going down and helped us log our dives after we finished. The gear itself could have been in better shape. I had no issues personally, but my husband’s mask kept filling with water and he had issues emptying his bcd as it appeared to keep slowly refilling with air during the dive.

The first reef was The Wall, which was good and a pretty deep dive if you’re only a recreational diver - approx 24-25 meters. Lots of fish but our dive instructor did bring food with him for the fishes, so they ended up following us round looking for scraps. Second dive was better, which was The Aquarium. Lots more fish and saw plenty of yellow rays. Our dive instructor kept picking them up so we could get pictures “holding” them. I felt like we could appreciate the wildlife around us without poking and prodding at them and stressing them out.

Lunch was a barbecue on the beach. Lovely sandy shores and the food was really good, plus plenty of decompression cervezas. We decided to purchase our dive photos as well - cost was 50USD. More for the wildlife pictures than of us with masks on and regulators in our mouths!

The journey back was less crowded as I think some of the snorkelers had gone back on a different boat. If the tour had been this number of people to start with, I think it would have been much better. Getting ready to do our dives was a nightmare as there were so many people on board and there was no space to manoeuvre.

Overall, we had a great day out and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the boat was just a bit too crowded and the equipment a little under the weather.

Arriving in Saona is like landing in paradise. The water surrounds you, the joy and the people, the palm trees, everything. I wanted to stay there for the rest of my life!

The experience was mix of good and bad. Good: nice views, probably second best coral reef in Dominican republic area (if you are lucky to get clear water), 3h for snorkeling and swimming. Bad: overloaded boat (80-100 people, many without shade in full sun for whole day), slow transfers with multiple changes (From our hotel it took 2.5h to get to the boat, faster return), transfer from boat to Catalaina took 5 rounds of smaller boat runs, total disregard of health and safety on smaller boat transfer. How no one was badly harmed was an act of God. Catalina is worth visiting, but i would not recommend this specific tour to friends.

The boat trip was really good, stopped at an amazing place (wish to stay there). Actual island was ok, not so special.
Not enough time to spend there to can enjoy.

Was a beautiful place with amazing views and not really what you expect when you hear that you are going to a made-up 16th century village. It was very well done and as it has had time to become established it did feel like it was really old.

The only thing I would say that meant it was not a 5-star is that it said the visit was with a guide in English, however we had a nice driver who did not speak much English. We managed but it would have been nice to have a little more information about the village itself.
